Hungry ALL the time.

I can deal with that feeling of slight hunger. I know I eat plenty of calories. But the time it is un-ignorable is right before bed. My stomach doesn't just growl. It's quakes, makes me nauseous. I can't ever go to bed on an empty stomach.

And yet some people do. What's up with that?

Life is strange . When I am not on diet I feel hungry and I eat like a horse . Once I am serious to go on diet I do not feel hungry and food does not give me cravings . Life is strange indeed ......loool .

Been checked for hypoglycemia? I am hypoglycemic, and I have very similar symptoms. I'm always hungry, especially at night!

You could have a specific hunger, that is presenting as general hunger.

Is there any food item you are avoiding for any reason whatsoever?

Or you could be on a multivitamin supplement and taking too much of it. Multivitamins are generally required in the metabolism of macronutrients and excess can sometimes cause symptoms of hunger.

Hunger is often as much stimulated by food consumption, as it is abated. Perhaps you could try altering the time at which you typically consume your final meal of the day.

Same thing! Kind of. Even shortly after I eat, I feel hungry! And especially when I go to bed, as you say.

I'm not sure why. Try drinking water. It should keep the hunger away although don't drink too much unless you want frequent trips to the restroom.

Eat five or six small meals a day with a larger protein to carb ratio and make sure that the last meal is around 10. In between snacks such as a handful of raw almonds are very good for curbing hunger.

eat more fiber. Its like eating rocks, it keeps your stomic full but doesnt provide aditional glucose which your body doesnt need

AFAIK, he is on a gluten-free diet.

When I don't eat bread, I tend to feel there is something missing and I feel hunger.
If someone is strongly habituated to eating bread, and then they suddenly stop eating it, that could be connected to feelings of constant hunger.

Hunger can also be to the kind of foods you eat.

There are some foods that give me no feeling of satiation, no matter how much I eat of them. Esp. pasta and most kinds of bread leave me feeling hungry. The worst hunger-maker for me is pizza.

super try eating some carrots. Good for you AND they are hard to digest so makes your metabolism work harder. No dressing , just some raw carrots. Works for me....

Good questions and points.

I actually went to my doctor and he said that it could be one (or more) of three things (or not): 1) psychological. We all have an innate fear of starvation. It's genetic. Some of us manifest these fears more profoundly, to the point where our brains create physical and measurable symptoms to drive us to eat. 2) Hypoglycemia. I did a blood sugar test and it seemed to show normal. 3) "Incompatibility" with wheat and/or gluten. Some people would call it an allergy. He stated that we are greatly underestimating the damaging effects of over-consumption of wheat.

A typical day's eating:

Breakfast: Protein shake (made, in the blender, with carrots, blueberries, strawberries, scoop of whey protein powder, soy milk) & an avocado. Plus Metamucil (I've taken it for years because of colon issues earlier in life)
Snack: mixed nuts & cottage cheese.
Lunch: Salad of mixed greens, chick peas, grilled salamon, tomatoes, cucumbers, vinaigrette.
Snack: Egg beater omelette with goat cheese (yeah, I'm to lazy to cook when I first get up, so I usually eat this when I get home from work).
Dinner: usually fish or chicken again. Sometimes another avocado and protein shake. Perhaps another salad with grilled chicken.

I'm avoiding wheat as much as possible and I usually don't consume any refined carbs. I do, however, eat whatever I want on Sundays (it's my free day). I do run a lot, which burns somewhere between 1k and 1.5k calories, but I eat enough calories to replace what I lose.

Indeed. Eating before bed always causes me to wake up famished.

Done that.

I do love bread. I'd kill a small puppy for a piece of bread some days, but I find that my dizziness and extreme hunger is far less when I avoid wheat and high-density carbs.

I hate carrots, though I do get my share in my shake in the morning.

. . . I'll keep you all posted.

Or you might just have hyperthyroidism...giving you a very fast metabolism and chronic insomnia.

I'm pretty sure my thyroid was checked. I'll have to pull up the papers to see what The Clinic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Clinic) said.

People who are really always hungry, not just nervously picking at food or eating out of boredom, could have parasites... or could not be getting enough protein. Vegans can eat nuts for extra protein when still very hungry after eating good nutritious food.
Steroids and other drugs can also make a person ravenous.

I realize that you posted this some time ago, but do you still have a link to where you found this info?

Hmmmmm......if you were a horse, superstring, I would suggest that you need a bit of green feed to up the fiber content of your diet.

Beans and legumes are useful for the same function in humans. :)

LOL....If you ride 'em hard and bring them in wet, you've got to give them a good cool down and sponge them off, otherwise you are at risk for having your mount come up sore the next day. ;)

How did your comment relate to the 'Always Hungry' topic, MacGyver?

I suppose it could relate to burning more calories than the diet is providing. :D
