I just heard the other day that Mormons will go through death records and baptize people after they're dead. Is that true? This seems incredibly rude to me... Any comments, facts, etc. from anyone??

Lori 11-05-99, 02:27 PM I don't know if that's true, but if it is, it's morbid and pointless. ------------------ God loves you and so do I! truestory 11-05-99, 02:48 PM Mormons have been heavy into geneology since their founding 170 years ago. My understanding is that they are creating the largest database of geneological records ever known and including it on a website. Mormons believe that such baptisms give the dead the opportunity to join the Mormon church in the afterlife. SkyeBlue 11-05-99, 06:49 PM I heard a great song - written by a former co-worker - entitled "Baptize me when I'm dead". It basically says 'why should I be good while I'm alive, you can just baptize me when I'm dead'. Very good, very funny. Tiassa 11-05-99, 09:31 PM One thing I don't understand about Latter-Day Saints in this ... does the posthumous baptism override the fact that an individual might just have been a creep? Or does posthumous baptism absolve you of your earthly sins? thx, Tiassa ------------------ "Let us not launch the boat until the ground is wet." Oxygen, Isn't that what religion is all about? Oxygen 11-07-99, 09:44 PM I suppose, but they should leave my soul alone. They have no right to tamper with my eternity. At any rate, once I'm dead, who cares? |
