View Full Version : China bans reincarnation
Well that does it!
BEIJING, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- China's communist leaders have forbidden reincarnation without government permission in largely Buddhist Tibet.
The reincarnation ban is part of a 14-part regulation issued by the Chinese government in an attempt to limit the influence of the Dalai Lama, the exiled Tibetan religious leader, the Times of London reported Friday.
Since the 12th century, Tibetan Buddhists have believed that reincarnated important religious leaders, known as tulkus, can be identified in young boys.
The new regulations, which go into effect September 1, 2007, will make it illegal to identify the child reincarnation of the Dalai Lama without the approval of Chinese authorities.

ashpwner 08-07-07, 11:46 PM dam so now i'm not aloud to come back as a eagle?
superstring01 08-08-07, 12:09 AM Well, it's not like reincarnation is real.
Okay... okay, that's not the point. I know.
But, what did you expect? A free and open China? C'mon... you know better than that.

Its got nothing to do with reincarnation; they don't want another Dalai Lama.
one_raven 08-08-07, 12:14 AM They DO want another Dalai Lama - they want to appoint one who will be obedient to China and cull the Tibetan people.

Yeah, right.
superstring01 08-08-07, 12:27 AM Didn't they also ban that cooky cult Falun Gong? It's China-- they don't trust anything they can't control from Bejing.

Norsefire 08-08-07, 12:28 AM And china becomes even more restrictive.............what a surprise:rolleyes:
Michael 08-08-07, 01:11 AM I heard they were still banning certain CNN segments from airing. Even banning the filming, without permission, of some Chinese high school students practicing their parade march?
Well, you know the Olympics helped push South Korea into Democracy - maybe something like that will happen in China.
Also, China is a big place with a LOT of people. If there is a "revolution" probably a lot of people will die just because of the disruption of services. I'm hoping that as Chinese become more wealthy they will peacefully demand more from their representatives. Maybe one big Ghandi like strike would do the trick?
Michael
one_raven 08-08-07, 01:13 AM If people starve themselves to death, China will have to worry less about the disobedients.
Michael 08-08-07, 02:40 AM Oh come on, it's not like "China" is a person :) but if it were a person would it ... haa! just kidding :p
I have high hopes for Chinese and Indian people. If the world doesn't melt maybe things are going to turn for the better for everyone?
hypewaders 08-08-07, 09:18 PM "China bans reincarnation"
Wow, dood. Hope I don't come back Chinese.

That does what? You say something then don't say why.

I had planned on being Grand Queen Poobah, ruler of the universe. :bawl:
cosmictraveler 08-08-07, 10:12 PM Well now what will become of you?
Orleander 08-08-07, 10:19 PM I had planned on being Grand Queen Poobah, ruler of the universe. :bawl:
OH? You wanted to be a cat?
If I were to be reincarnated, I think I'd want to be a man in Iran. I can't even imagine having that kind of power. Hopefully I wouldn't abuse it.
Orleander 08-08-07, 10:20 PM so, I take it the ban has worked. Nobody's been reincarnated right?

I don't think you've met any Iranian men? They are mama's boys, like chauvinistic Latinos.
You might try being Christian, male, white and POTUS, instead.;)

Not if they don't clean up their act...

Michael 08-09-07, 10:41 PM I was thinking, if I don't get offered a job in Japan maybe I might want to work in China BUT I am scared of the air and food quality.

That's wierd - that's almost exactly what a girl I used to from Tehran said. Wierd.
Anyway, how are they going to ban reincarnation? Are they going to set up giant flux capacitors to trap his sneaky soul? Ghostbusters? And why within the 14-day period? Are they planning to kill him or something? Aha! And then trap his soul. A bit more credulity, and I could be MattMarr.
Anyway, how are they going to ban reincarnation?
It is a matter of control. They wish to approve of and have a say in who the religious leaders are going to be. Instead of having the belief of reincarnation, which is how leaders are chosen, the State then selects the leaders they wish to see in positions of power and control.
So they are not banning reincarnation as such. They are banning reincarnation as a religious tool.

I have found Iranian men to be intelligent and charming, but too attached to their mom's apron strings to be considered impressive. If there are exceptions, I would most certainly like to meet them.

They've obviously found a means of intercession. These atheists will be the death of us all.:grumble:

Geoff is not a dating service.

Darn atheists! Funny you mention intercession, though: maybe they're just praying to an even stronger god to destroy the Lama's followers?

Geoff could moonlight as a pointer

They're atheists, they are probably praying to that infamous pedophile (http://www.irreligion.org/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/fsm-rape.jpg).

It depends on the money. Geoff already got second job. Why need more?

Yeah right.:D
You might want to reconsider that it has a direct effect on your ability to come back as Sponge Bob No Pants

No, real job in irresponsible advice and con-sul-ting. Geoff no advise people what do with Geoff own animals - always telling others. Could tell self what do to, but would be institutionalizable.
Yeah right.:D
No, serious. Timewasting on internet American habit, caused by close contact of IT professionals' asscheeks with comfortable seat.

Make fun of Geoff's Myuunitarianism no amusing. Serious religion! Would accuse of hate crime, if criticism or de-ri-sion were result of actual hatred, and not just justifiable distain.
Bah, Geoff find good way to circumvent Chinese law. Already living as multiple personalities.

Also evade personal tax. Would pay for all personalities, but each one always say "Hey, ask next one. Me pay already at office." Maybe not fair, but responsive to in-ter-per-so-nal dy-nam-ic.
mikenostic 08-10-07, 07:37 AM I don't think you've met any Iranian men? They are mama's boys, like chauvinistic Latinos.
I have. My former landlord is Iranian. He is one of the nicest guys I've ever met and by far he and his wife (who are realtors) were the coolest landlords I've ever had.
He emigrated during the Islamofacist revolution back in the late 70s.
Geoff appreciate perspective of mikenostic's friend. Like caveman. Hear Cro-Magnons succeeding, bad time to stay in cave. Geoff still appreciate old days, but up-ward-ly mobile, like restaurant worker with cellphone and no time take Geoff's order.
Pandaemoni 08-10-07, 08:21 AM When you criminalize reincarnation, only criminals will reincarnate.
I can't wait until they start arresting animals on the charge of "suspected unlawful reincarnation."

Ahhh...excellent.
As always, Scotty beams me up:
Cynics believe the real reason behind this Chinese law is to control the Dalai Lama’s impending reincarnation. I hope that’s not true, because it is exactly the sort of decision you should not trust to bureaucrats. It raises the ugly possibility that the next Dalai Lama will be, for example, a squirrel.
I don’t think I have to tell you that Tibetan monks have enough trouble already. They sit around all day in their bathrobes chanting whatever the Tibetan words are for “I wish I had Internet, I wish I had Internet.” That has to get boring after a few decades.
The only possession of a Tibetan monk is a rice bowl. They aren’t even on the Victoria Secrets mailing list. If you have ever tried pleasuring yourself while looking at a rice bowl, it’s not as easy as it sounds. You’d need at least two bowls for that, turned upside down, with a pebble on each of them. And I already told you Monks don’t own pebbles.
All I’m saying is the monks have a tough life. If they have to start worshipping a squirrel, things can only get worse. Imagine the teasing the little monks would get in school:
Chinese Bully: “Hey, Norbu, I hear your Dalai Lama is home playing with his nuts! Ha ha!”
And I imagine the Chinese schoolyard bullies of the future will be kids whose Dad’s work in the Department of Determining What You Reincarnate Into.
Chinese Bully: “Give me your lunch money, or else.”
Chinese non-Bully: “Or else what?”
Chinese Bully: “My dad will turn your dad into an ass monkey.”
Chinese non-Bully: “There’s no such thing as an ass monkey.”
Chinese Bully: “Oh yeah? My uncle works in the Department of Evolution, and we have a family reunion coming up.”
Chinese non-Bully: “Noooooooo!!!!!”
It could happen.
