if you want games, look for a graphics card with at least 128 mb dedicated RAM. otherwise, don't expect it to handle anything really heavy (Farcry, Doom, etc.).

Don't forget a good sound card! ;)
I've heard that Audigy ones are nice for the price.
And for the games you'll probably want a dolby surround output, at least 5.1

it really depends what sort of games you are running what to get, but if you want to run games like far cry high graphics then its gonna cost about EU1300 at shop prices(NZ$2500 if you buy OEM)

if you are looking more for a media centre then spend a few hundred on low end(but still half decent) cpu/ram/graphics card, then buy yourself a 17"/19" LCD monitor and get AT LEAST 500gb(preferably 1.5~2TB) of storage space and rent yourself a 2Mb connection

At least 500gb? Don't be insane. I'm a cybepunk in more ways than one (including graphics rendering and various OS testing) and I find my 440gb setup to be optimal, that is of course if all (or most) the large video files are kept on cd's.

if youre going for cheap.... get an emachines.
after much protesting i got one as a last resort. Video card works fine for games, dvd burner, 448 ram, 73g of disk space.
im not really sure how that compares to everything else, but so far this cmputer has worked better than anything else ive ever used. as for video files, i have a shitload, and i havn't notices any problems as of yet.
price i paid for computer and 17" flat screen monitor.. $550.00 not sure how that converts. but this is the cheapest best running comp ive ever used. well.. after i uninstalled Norton, that is.

you can configure the spec as you want. I just configured it for what I would want if spending 1K. For example that price include 2 * DVD Writers. It also includes a lovely sound card, 2gb DDR and a 19inch flat screen.

Its a good deal anyhoo.

If you want to use it for music production, I suggest you subscribe to the forums on this site http://www.soundonsound.com/index.php?url=/ and ask the musos.

For the money you want to invest, you could consider the new IMAC, which is one smart machine. Otherwise go for lots of RAM lots of HD memory (over 100gb's) a good soundcard and good graphics card.

The Dell sounds wicked!

wesmorris
11-02-05, 04:16 PM
Yeah that dell is a pretty good deal. You might bump to the 250G drive. I've never used media edition, but it might behoove you given your desires for audio editing. Definately upgrade the soundcard to one of the audigy 2s.

the computer is ok, but you should buy a few 250/300gb storage drives for about 90~120EU each

tablariddim
11-04-05, 12:05 PM
I just checked into it a bit more deeply and the price of the Dell increases considerably when you add more memory and better graphics etc, but it's still within Taylan's budget, if he buys it very soon.

taylan007

Why does it have to be very soon???

With the dell computers, can i add graphics cards and other hardware which are not made by dell as i can with other PCs???

Can anyone give me info on sites where i can buy the parts to build my own PC?? does this work out better ????

Just go to your local computer shop, state your needs and they'll find something for you in the price range you desire.
If you have no hardware experience you'll get into more trouble than it is needed if assembling your own system.

Just remember -> at least 512mb of RAM
at least a 128mb new graphics card
sound card suited for home music mixing (Audigy)
and you'll never have too little hard drive space.
I'd advice to get a 200gb Seagate or Maxtor and then see if you need more.
