View Full Version : Does EM&J need a new moderator?
Mystech 08-25-05, 08:40 PM The EM&J board is in need of a bit of moderation - there have been instances of spamming and extremely inappropriate linking disguised as references to other sciforums threads, as well as a number of threads degenerating into vitriolic name calling and inane repetition of points with certain posters opting not to read or respond to each-other in favor of talking to themselves.
As a candidate for the mod position I would like to mention that I don't feel that major action needs to be taken on the EM&J board, but I would like to see an active moderator in power to take care of some of the more grievous offences and keep the board from sliding further into the realm of unintelligent name calling and posters writing the same phrases again and again in bold capital letters.
Asguard 08-25-05, 11:58 PM i dont mind doing it but mystech i think you should
James R 08-26-05, 12:03 AM I'd be quite happy to see you as a co-moderator, Mystech.
Mystech.

Woohoo!
Mystech would make a great mod.. :D
Could we possibly shorten the time span for the poll? Make it two weeks maybe?

Yes it could be a problem - but there's still time to fix that. Should a sticky thread or the like be made in there to announce that there is an election for a new mod for the board? Can any mod do that, or would it actually have to be the mod of that board? If so, would it be reasonable to simply post an announcement in the form of a regular thread in the forum?
At any rate I think it would be most appropriate if an existing moderator were to put the post up - seems more official that way.
As for the length of the poll I have to admit that I kind of pulled that one out of thin air. I figured a month would be sufficient time to get a decent number of responses, and I don’t think that the matter is urgent enough that EM&J will have ceased to exist within a month. I should expect that a consensus will be obvious before that time, though.
I don't think the moderator of a forum will give much propaganda to a thread intending to elect a new moderator. Some other solution?
Or can JamesR make a sticky post in the EM&J forum?

That's kind of what I meant. If tiassa were here to notify the board, then we wouldn't need this poll to begin with.
Not Hapsburg.
We don't need another repeat of the Fetus. It's been done already, and Fetus did a bang up job.
I like Mystech for the job. He's even headed, smart, and can do the job with a sense of humor at least. I think that tiassa would agree that he'd make a good mod. Cato would be good too, if he had accepted. But please not Hapsburg, he can't even control himself and is constantly insulting people he doesn't agree with.
I'm sure that Hapsburg's inclusion was ment to be a joke. :bugeye:
Voted for Mystech.
Hapsburg 09-01-05, 01:39 AM Voted for meself, naturally, because I'm a self-serving, self-righteous little bastard, even though I know it's joke. :D
ReighnStorm 09-01-05, 10:03 AM I voted for the other.

Well I figured that, it'd be nice to include you being that you asked really nice :p
sargentlard 09-04-05, 07:47 PM I'd go for Mystech...
invert_nexus 09-04-05, 10:01 PM I don't think this is a valid poll.
It's basically a "Should Mystech be a moderator" poll.
I doubt it'll reach a quorum, anyway, but if it does, then I'm stating right now that I dont' think it's valid.
Mystech is a rational person. So he definitely deserves a spot.

There aren't enough people who care enough anymore for a quorum.
And if you don't think it's valid, suggest someone better or come up with a better idea. EM&J needs a moderator, take one look and it's pretty obvious.
Asguard 09-07-05, 08:25 AM Mods arnt elected anymore they are apointed anyway, make the suggestion to dave and he will decide
Mystech 09-07-05, 05:53 PM Ugh, my methods are too old fashion.
How many people is a quorum here anyway?
vslayer 09-10-05, 11:05 AM 50
(3 word limit)
If someone really cared, they'd make 50 puppets and vote with those. Quorum city there you go.
I voted for Hapsburg out of jest.
You bring us one vote closer to a quorum.
Mystech has my endorsement, as such: Do what you need; I don't know when the problems will be hammered out on my end.
As to that, you all have my sincere apology. I will be here when I can, but as the intervening period has shown, that doesn't seem to be much. I live in a suburb sandwiched between yahoos and paranoid yuppies; my neighbor is a sped slut with seven children , my nearest friend an alcoholic surfer. It's not like the days in Seattle when you just popped over to a friend's house and used their connection.
At any rate, I'm working on it. Internet access is a high priority for me, after Emma Grace and employment ... and, since I don't write the family priorities, my partner's substance requirements ("Okay, so ... if the Sominex is for helping you get to sleep at night, why is it hidden in your car?" When you want to get high, as high as the sky ....)
In the meantime, do what you will, do what you must. Hell might freeze over before I get this fixed, but I tend to be optimistic. I hope to have things settled in time to celebrate the final downfall of the Bush gang and its middle-American marionette orgy of death and hatred. Barring that, I should definitely have the situation fixed by the time Dubya's reign of idiocy ends naturally, and have my voice well soothed for denouncing whatever stupidity the robber-barons and Jesus freaks want Americans to visit on themselves next. In other words, life goes on.
