View Full Version : Episode 2 Predictions Pollux V 05-08-02, 10:10 AM So what do you think'll happen, and how good do you think the movie will be? Post your thoughts here and fill in the poll. Remember, as of press time episode 2 is eight days away. Adam 05-08-02, 10:30 AM I expect great battle scenes, reasonable acting from most but not from a few, nice music, and so on. Asguard 05-08-02, 10:37 AM Brilliant music and effects good acting Just a excelent film Pollux V 05-08-02, 10:42 AM I guess I'll just have to wait for the unbelievers. I voted for the second option. Lesion42 05-08-02, 11:45 AM ditto:D Shamoo 05-08-02, 05:09 PM i think it will be a little better than the first movie, although the first movie was prettty bad... Dracula's Guest 05-09-02, 03:14 PM I'm a pretty big Star Wars fan but I have some serious doubts about this film. I've said this before, but didnt anyone else learn their lesson from The Phantom Menace? The clips and hype may look and sound great, but the film could easily suck big time. So thats what I'm voting for Hoth 05-11-02, 10:27 PM Originally posted by Dracula's Guest didnt anyone else learn their lesson from The Phantom Menace? Yes, from The Phantom Menace I learned that when Lucas makes something complicated the mainstream never gets it. The only thing the average person is capable of noticing is the surface level plot, Jar Jar and the pod race. Hopefully Episode II will have similar complexities so that like Ep I it gets better with each inspection. Tiassa 05-12-02, 12:30 AM It's going to be dazzling and brilliant. I second Hoth's comments. Besides, Yoda with a lightsabre. That's worth admission price in itself. I'm there. thanx, Tiassa  Pollux V 05-12-02, 07:29 AM BAD FUCKING NEWS. Entertainment Weekly gave AOTC the same FUCKING grade it gave the Phantom Menace. A C+. Find the latest magazine and read it for yourself. These guys may have their worlds revolving around celebrities but when it comes to movies they seem to know what they're talking about (Lord of the Rings=A). This really, really sucks. Is it at all possible for anyone to make a good, modern science fiction movie???? We'll all band together and create a new company called Ultraviolet or some spiffy name like that dedicated to making attractive, fun, and engaging science fiction movies that not only the fans like but everyone likes, like Lord of the Rings or even the Empire Strikes Back (directed by the same fellow who directed The Day the Earth Stood Still-an excellent movie in its own right). What is so hard about doing something right? Has Lucas been hit by a fucking meteor or something, or is he just incapable of making a decent movie? I hate to say this before going out and seeing the movie but odds are that the guys at EW are right. Fellow nerds we've been fucked again    Lesion42 05-12-02, 07:32 AM  I have never once seen you this angry before. You scare me, Pollux. Pollux V 05-12-02, 07:37 AM I only get mad when it matters. We are definitely FUCKED. Again. Time to go AWOL on the nerd ranks methinks... Adam 05-12-02, 08:02 AM No, I think the reviewers screwed up then. AOTC looks great. Maybe not great like Shakespeare or Homer are considered great, but it looks like damn good fun. And that's what I see movies for, fun. Pollux V 05-12-02, 08:23 AM I see movies for fun too, adam, but it's always an ultra bonus when the movies are actually good, like Memento, Lord of the Rings, 2001(debateable, tiassa must watch it a lot heheh). AOTC will be fun but it's just the same goddamn mediocre movie that TPM was. That's what bothers me. Hoth 05-12-02, 11:35 PM Star Wars isn't sci-fi, it's myth, the use of some sci-fi setting is irrelivent. It should try to be a good sci-fi film, it should try to be a good myth. Anyhow, try this AOTC review: http://www.tiscali.co.uk/entertainment/film/reviews/star_wars_attack_of_the_clones.html - 10 out of 10 stars "It's a deliciously complex plot which combines political and personal crises." "The plot is gripping and beautifully handled. The action sequences are simply astounding. And the acting and characterization, often the weakest point of the franchise, are better than ever." And this as well: http://www.empireonline.co.uk/features/events/starwars_episode2/review.shtm - 5 out of 5 stars "In 1999, this very magazine awarded The Phantom Menace four stars. Going by that rationale, Attack of the Clones deserves, oh, twenty. Pity we can only give five. OK, Clones isn't the greatest film ever. It's not even the greatest Star Wars film ever, falling short of close relative The Empire Strikes Back. Yet it outstrips TPM completely, gives Return of the Jedi a run for its money and Steven Spielberg thinks it's better than A New Hope." The key to why junk magazines like Entertainment Weekly give bad reviews is that, as that 2nd review says, "non-fans might get horribly lost." That, of course, is why the media didn't like TPM also... they didn't understand it. Pollux V 05-13-02, 11:10 AM Like I keep saying: WE'LL JUST HAVE TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS!! The Radek D'Vorak 05-13-02, 03:49 PM The question this summer: Will it beat or be better than Spiderman? Pollux V 05-13-02, 04:03 PM (quotation marks-meaning that we'll just have to see what happens) Welcome to sciforums Radek, what part of NYC are you from? I used to live in Brooklyn until I was six and then I moved *up here*. Scifi.com gave a favorable review but I don't have the link because I'm lazy. Go there, it's on the main page you should be able to find it. The reviewer said it was a good star wars movie but it sucked normalmoviewise. Reid 05-14-02, 08:26 AM It's gonna be interesting to see what score it gets on Internet movie database (http://www.imdb.com) Episode 1 - 6.9/10 (43784 votes) Episode 4 - 8.8/10 (76736 votes) Episode 5 - 8.7/10 (58128 votes) Episode 6 - 8.0/10 (44060 votes) [Edit] Votes are comming in for the new episode, so far its doing fine Episode 2 - 8.2/10 (13382 votes) Pollux V 05-14-02, 10:24 AM Do you know when the vote's going to be finished? Read qiute a few of the reviews the general concensus is that the FX are great but the film lacks good dialogue (surprise, surpise) and a self contained plot. Being a sci-fi junkie the lack of self contained plot doesn't bother me too much, I'm surprised that at this point Lucas hasn't colaborated with a co-writer who can make his scripts come alive. P.S. How do I get an avatar? Reid 05-14-02, 02:26 PM Pollux V, the number of votes I posted now is the current number of votes, new ones comming in every day Anyone can vote and as soon as the movie has its première votes will be comming in Pollux V 05-14-02, 03:45 PM I plan to see it this thursday, we have a half day in school (because of star wars-haha I wish!!) so me n my sciforums buds will likely be able to go. Avatars-first you should find one that you like that is I think 50x50 pixels or some measurement by that. If not, save it to your hard drive as a .gif and go to gifworks.com, where you can resize it to suit your needs. Then, come back to sciforums and click on control panel. Toward the top-middle of the screen there is a link that says 'options' or 'user options,' something like that. Click on it, and scroll down to the bottom of the screen. There should be a button that says 'change avatar.' You should be able to take it from there. I'll be sure to post my review as soon as I get back. Count on it (you can trust me, after all I am your beloved scifi guru!!) Hoth 05-15-02, 02:15 AM Originally posted by Reid Episode 1 - 6.9/10 (43784 votes) Episode 4 - 8.8/10 (76736 votes) Episode 5 - 8.7/10 (58128 votes) Episode 6 - 8.0/10 (44060 votes) If it rates ANH above ESB, I'd say that automatically invalidates their voters. Throw 'em all out, I need a recount. :D My avatar is from AOTC, but it's a bit hard to identify. Pollux V 05-15-02, 06:26 AM Well it's only a slight margin. More people need to vote, that's all... And yes what scene is that pic from? Mine looks like it's from the special edition of ANH where they fight the stormtroopers in Mos Eisley (ah, remember those days?) as the Falcon takes off. But I'm not sure. Porfiry 05-16-02, 01:21 AM So, who's the first here to have seen it? Did anyone go to a midnight screening? Tiassa 05-16-02, 04:55 AM It's definitely a Star Wars film. Eye-popping, mind-numbing, the standard choppy dialogue, and simply perfect. Yoda. Lightsabre. Cost of admission. Worth it. And, yes, Jar Jar is, in fact, an important part of this story. I think y'all will be amused. may the force be with you, Tiassa  Hoth 05-17-02, 12:15 AM Originally posted by Pollux V And yes what scene is that pic from? It's taken from one the Episode II select photos, found it a long time ago. http://www.starwars.com/episode-ii/select/2000/12/select20001228.html I won't see AOTC until next week... I'm using restraint and maintaining control of myself, I didn't want to take the quick and easy route and risk going over to the dark side. ;) |
