Today is flag day in the United States. Fly your flag proudly. Here is a history of U.S. flags:

The first U.S. flag, from 1777 to 1795:
States Admitted To The Union: Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, South Carolina, New Hampshire, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island

The Star Spangled Banner, The 15 Star Flag, from 1795 to 1818
States Admitted To The Union: Vermont, Kentucky
Note: Notice the "tilt" in the stars.

The 1818 Flag, The 20 Star Flag, from 1818 to 1819:
States Admitted To The Union: Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana, Indiana, Mississippi
Realizing that the addition of a new star and new stripe for each new state was impractical, Congress passed the Flag Act of 1818, which returned the flag design to 13 stripes and specified 20 stars for the 20 states.

Where's the Confederate flag, Jerrek? I thought something like that might interest you more, but, oh well...

if you look at this series of flags you kind of get an idea of expansionist colonialism. Add a star every few years or so, until you can't fit any more on it.

Couldn't you have just linked this

Interesting as it is (I suck at lying) it's a little overboard.

So does the US own the Moon and Mt. Everest now?? ;)

Where's the Confederate flag, Jerrek? I thought something like that might interest you more, but, oh well... Why? We don't celebrate the Confederate flag, we celebrate the Union flag. I would think that you would know that. Apparently you don't. Or, you're just trying to express your dislike for me and my posts by stating "facts" about me that you pull from thin air because you don't even know me in order to make me look like something you don't like.

if you look at this series of flags you kind of get an idea of expansionist colonialism. The independent states voted to join the Union. The United States did not force any of the states to join.

Couldn't you have just linked this No. Then there wouldn't be as many pretty flags. You don't have to read it if you don't want to.

Spuriousmonkey, do you have issues understanding the concept of dual citizenship? Is your brain bigger than a mice's nut?

I don't really have a choice because I'm living with my parents for half of the time and I couldn't get into M.I.T. And it just so happens my dad has a good job right here, just like he had a good job in the other countries I've lived in.

If your country is annexed by a larger power and you have the right to be independant again only if that countries governing body decides to let you?

You still have a say, not much but eh that's democracy. You also vote to join in the first place. Example being Peurto Rico. They keep on voting no to join the united states.
