Wow, I'm so glad I finally got this thing to work. I'm new to this forum, and somehow the confirmation email got lost, but I found away around it.

Anyway, I'm a chemistry undergrad always looking for new places to talk, and so I'm glad to have found this forum. I look forward to contributing to it.

I'd also like to introduce my blog about my experiences defending science. https://silkworm.wordpress.com/

Thank you and I'll see you on the forum.

I wouldn't say spammer... I just read his blog and found it interesting. I liked the way he reported on the CORR meetings and the interactions between presenters and attendees as well as the presentation styles of the speakers. Very informative.

Sciforums is frequented by a pretty wide demographic. Part of its appeal is the the low moderation that exists compared with other science boards (or other message boards in general). I moderate a couple other boards, and the moderation at both is far more stringent.

That having been said, this style works well for sciforums. Active member numbers are high and diverse in education and age, not to mention beliefs. The "religion" subforum is one of the hottest as are "physics & math" and "world events."

You'll find plenty of discussion topics in the "religion" and "psuedoscience" sections that'll give you plenty of opportunity to defend science and I look forward to seeing your posts.

Thanks for sharing your blog with us.

Here's two blog entries of my own that you may find interesting that follow along the "defense of science" vein: Review- Dawkins' God: Genes, Memes and the Meaning of Life (http://hotcupofjoe.blogspot.com/2006/04/review-dawkins-god-genes-memes-and.html) and Does Scientism Exist? (http://hotcupofjoe.blogspot.com/2006/02/does-scientism-exist.html) The latter is based on an essay written by David Menton, whom you mention in your blog.

YAY I passed!

Hey Skinwalker, I liked your blog, I'm putting you on my links thing (whatever that is, I'm very new to the blog world and still trying to get the look set up like I want). I only have time right now to read the Menton one, but liked what you did there. I wish I could go see him in St. Louis.

I did read a little bit of the Dawkins one, it's too bad you got burned. They hooked you and then tore your heart out like that National Geographic last year.

You'll find too that this group like to quote book critiques, what a book critic said about an author, as what the author said. That and guote aerospace engineers on microbiology. It's lame, but it works against those who don't know better.

I know you from other forums.

I don't fight too much for science on science forums (or on the internet too much although I'm working on something that will do a lot of fighting for me), I do that in person, and as you can see by Menton about Sagan the attack is not just against evolution, it's against everything. I also make it a point not to talk about religion, though pseudoscience tends to end up everywhere doesn't it?

Thanks for the introduction.

What's with the obsession of sock puppets around here? ToR, you asked whose sock puppet I was about two weeks ago. LOL.
