I really don't know Orly. The only time I have ever heard of this before is in a movie called "Fight Club". Perhaps you know of it? Anyway, they were procuring human fat to make soap, of all things, but they were stealing it from hospital medical refuse, garbage containers, etc...

At a news conference, police showed reporters two bottles of fat recovered from the suspects and a photo of the rotting head of a 27-year-old male victim. Suspect Elmer Segundo Castillejos, 29, led police to the head, recovered in a coca-growing valley last month, Mejia said.

Mejia said Castillejos recounted how the gang cut off its victims' heads, arms and legs, removed the organs, then suspended the torsos from hooks above candles that warmed the flesh as fat dripped into tubs below.

Six members of the gang remain at large, Mejia said. Among them was the band's alleged leader, Hilario Cudena, 56, who Castillejos told police has been killing people to extract human fat for more than three decades.

cow fat looks different than chicken fat which looks different than human fat which looks different than deer fat. If collecting fat for products is their job, I would seriously hope they would notice the difference. I would also think there would be different grades of fat they use

They were interviewing a pastic and reconstructive surgon about this case and he said that unless the fat comes from the person its going back into (ie from your stomic to build a new breast after breast cancer surgury for instance) its usless. You have the same rejection problems as with any other transplant and there for even if it was possable it would have to be carefully type matched ect

over candles??? Seems inefficient, but I suppose in back-water areas of Peru, it might be the only option.

they DEFINITLY wernt trying to use it for medical purpose then. The heat would would compleatly destroy the atipose cells which contain the fat, after that it would be useless for injection even IF it wasnt impossable to control the rejection issues

well that depends, there is a time frame for transplantation. Hearts and some other organs need to be taken immidiatly. Other cells like skin and the lenses from the eyes (or is it the cornia?) can be taken a while after death. I think it depends on how much latic acid the paticular sort of cells can sustain (for instance mussles can go 3-7 hours on anarobic respiration, the heart on the other hand is less than 3 min before it starts to die) but there could be other factors as well. However if you cook it? Look in the botom of the pan next time you cook a roast and tell me if you think there would be ANY medical use for that:p

Maybe its easier to kill and string up a drunk homeless person that no one would miss than to kill a cow and string it up.

Why would the oils from human's be any better for making a bar of soap over that of fish, deer, whale, mouse, etc...? It's just oil and so maybe trees make a better oil for rubbing on skin. Fat's serves as an energy reserve not a moisturizer!

That aside, I was working so much I gained 5 kg! Shit.... so three weeks agao I started the chicken breast + veggies + back to the gym diet and wa la, I lost 3 kg all ready! :)


Fight Club is in my top 5 movies. I loved all the scenes split into it. And the first two times I watched it I didn't see the penis. Haaa! Great movie.

A friend of mine made an astute observation: if this shiet is so expensive, then extract human fat from the place who has it in abundance -- i.e. the United States of McDonalds (the amount of obese people you gots there is staggering!) -- and that way you can get rid of your national debt in no time :)

I don't know about "crimes", but is this situation somehow worse than the thousands of people (lots of them children), starving to death virtually every single day of the year? In Africa, India, Bangladesh and Indonesia, people are starving to death by the millions ...and no one seems to register any problem with it. But one or two kids are killed and it's reported in the media, then we all act horrified and disgusted, etc.

Yeah, maybe it's stupid, but it's true, isn't it? We let tens of thousands of people starve to death and say and do nothing. But when a few people are killed in "sensational" events, we act all horrified and anquished.

We're desensitized to starvation, deaths by common diseases, and "normal" killings ...UNLESS... the media "tells" us to be horrified.

While you were reading the above post, at least a thousand people starved to death or died of some easily cured disease.

I dont agree with it. My perspective is just because a quote sounds good does not make it any less stupid.

It is like that old quote by a nazi about people believing a big lie easier than a small lie but i really dont see any practical evidence of this. And like the other,m these quptes sound good but are totally useless and to me is an indication of stupidity.
