So my cat was sleeping in my armchair, and I noticed she was twitching a little in her sleep. I wondered about that but figured humans do it too and it is pretty normal. Few minutes later she starts twitching some more, this time sharply flexing then retracting her claws. (Probably dreaming about killing some rats) That doesn't seem normal and I get myself convinced that little yellow-eyed missy is having an epileptic seizure. I scoop up her head in my hands to check if her eyes are ok, since they usually roll up in a seizure. She stays limp and doesn't move. I freak out and snatch her up yelping 'Noooooo! Little one! Wake up!!!!' all ready to rush her off to the vet for apparent seizure.
Quite predictably...she's fine...just a bit ruffled at being woken up abruptly. Poor girl. :D:D
I really should lay off the caffeine.

You were just being a little "overly protective" with her, that's all.

Dogs do it to (Although not retracting the claws since they have paws), I remember my dog as a teen doing something similar, it went limp after opening it's eyes which had rolled right back to show only whites (pretty freaky).
Then it came too after a brief shaking where it wagged it's tail. I'm guessing it was just in a deep REM state and well got disturbed. During that state it was probably affixed with neurological chemicals that would have to slowly be flushed before allowing recovery. (You might of felt those chemicals if you've ever had to get up after not enough sleep,)
