Joseph Heller . . . . . Catch-22
J.D. Salinger . . . . . The Catcher In The Rye
Kurt Vonnegut . . . . . Cat's Cradle
Kurt Vonnegut . . . . . Slaughterhouse-Five
So, if you've read any/all of these, what's your opinion? Any good?
they are all good, why do you think they are considered classics.
Although, I think the first two are better than the last two, just my taste I guess.

I just recently decided to read both Catcher in the Rye and Slaughterhouse 5.
I was dissapointed with both books, in that they are highly regarded and my expectations were not met. Maybe it was due to the juvenile writing style or maybe it was the whole plot formation.
Nonetheless, I found the ideas put forth in each literary effort made the books worth reading. Salinger with the whole phony message and Vonnegut with some interesting moral viewpoints helped me appreciate the simplistic, but profound writing displayed in each novel.
Overall, I felt the books could have been better, the ideas were there, but the books left me with a longing for something more.
Mark David Chapman apparently liked The Catcher in the Rye.

Catch-22 is a keeper. All the rest, you should flush.

catch 22- great
catcher in the rye--ummm, interesting is one way to put it.
the other two- i've heard good things about vonnegut, just never been able to get through any myself
Catcher in the Rye - boring, whiny and faux-profound. I'd shoot people if I read this book more than one time.
Catch-22 is utterly amazing and completely uproarious.
Xev, i have nothing for you.
Yeah catcher in the Rye bored me too. I admit I didn't read much of it, but if a book doesn't get into the story quick enough, then how can anyone be expected to read it? There's only so much work someone will do.
I've heard Catch-22 is good, but I'm quite sure I havn't read it.
