I really am starting to feel sorry for The USA..

I mean don't take this as pity or me throwing punches.

But over the Last 10-20 years has anything really good happen there, all I hear is Natural disaster here, double dip recession coming, At war again, Bridges, subways, Infrastructure In general needs major Upgrading, and repairs.Polititions who could give a damn unless it benifits them directly.do I really need to continue.

really Is there anything In The USA's future, besides hardship, if things don't change.

I Really don't know how you guys are holding out this long with so many Blows one after the other.

All I can say is Kudos, for still going Strong, after the shocks The Good Ole USA took, Shocks which would have with out a doubt brought most if all other Nations to there Knees..

Yeah, we're tough bastards, but the really sad thing is that most Americans don't even know about half the things you listed. They're completely oblivious to reality... Ignorant is another word I'd use to describe the majority.

And I don't know if you were like this as a child, but I remember when I was in grade-school, during summer adults would always ask me "are you happy school's out?" Or at the end "Are you happy to be going back?" And being only a child I thought I was supposed to say NO! and dislike school. Of course I didn't really mean it, I was indifferent about school. But it seems these days most kids really do hate school. They can't stand learning. They (and I'm not exaggerating this) really do loath the opportunity to learn something. What? Learn? Pffft, no thanks. *texts friend* And they're so damn obnoxious to the teachers. And if you placed a jamming device in a classroom, so that they couldn't send or receive texts, I swear to you a few of them would start having withdrawal symptoms. They feel like they need to be in constant communication with someone else. Ever seen The Murderer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBF1FHiZeXY)? It's like that. We're constantly being bombarded with advertisements and new products, in constant communication, and we're becoming dependent on it, shaping our society around it. It makes me sick.

We really are in sad shape, and the majority of this teen generation is not helping at all. If you think about it, this generation will eventually have to assume the jobs that the (older) adults currently have. Government jobs. Imagine what the headquarters of the FBI will look like in 20-30 years...It makes me shudder.

But I suppose on a global scale the human race isn't much better..

lol, I started watching some of his videos..

He is good, I never seen b4 tonight,

And as for the previous thread, yes I agree.

Todays generation are not looking good at all, At least not the western generation.

They have very little respect for authority, they are Lazy, Probably because The Majority has everything handed to them on a Platter.

As for the Education, I am Kinda In between, just because our education systems try to force too much on them, and If A student is not Interested In History as an Example, They are Not likely to learn it, so they will fail..In All Honesty why go to school if they will be forced to repeat.

I think Todays Education should Have 3 main subjects, Reading, Writing, math, all compulsory, Then the rest should be Optional, But it should be mandatory to select how ever many optional courses.

Trying to teach a Student something they have No interest in will Frustrate them.

and Yes you guys are tough Bastards, In many ways..

And I speaking on be half of All Canadians, (even the ones who act like they Deni it) are Gratefull that Your Country is, Has been and All ways be Canada's Best Friend and Allie. I just hope your Politicians get there act Together and start working for the true Foundation and it's true soul, Your proud People.

Good luck, and I hope you achieve your goal. I loved getting into debates with my history Teachers, In School, I would keep him Going the whole Class.

I all ways Believed, we Must Know our Past to build a brighter Future.

Yeah I like bringing it out when I get UN intentionally Involved In an American Vs Canadian Thread :)

But Remember, ya ll tried to take us over, so we burned the white house to say Get the Fuck then left, Canadians all ways just wanted what rightfully belongs to them, Y'all can have everything else,

We Proved that again after the world wars, when we Opted not to take any of the spoils of war, even though we were as in titled to them spoils as any one else.

Yeah but that was the only time we tried to take someone else's land...*cough*

And we really didn't want to kick the Germans on their asses after the first one, but France and Jolly old England wanted some reparations. Sooo....That turned out well...

I think I should take this opportunity to address the other allied powers at the period and say: WE TOLD YOU SO! WE FUCKING TOLD YOU SO!

I imagine that this is what it was like in Rome when their empire was collapsing. The collapse is probably inevitable, so I hope it happens while I'm still alive and able to participate in the rebuilding (which is most important, at this point).

I don't think we can collapse. We're too much of a superpower. The government wont let that happen. But Congress (and every single american, for that matter) needs to pull their heads out of their asses and look at reality, and stop hiding from it.

I agree that we probably wouldn't be able to collapse. Rome was just chaotic. We are able to maintain order.

This is really a walk in the park compared to life in other areas of the world. The U.S. really does have it pretty good by comparison.

Well damn, if you compare the U.S. to a third world country, then of course living conditions here would look better. But we're talking about just the States. No comparisons. Just us.

Politicians love to tell us how special America is. But what is it that’s special?

It can’t be the scenery — the "purple mountain majesties" or "thy rocks and rills." Dozens of countries have beautiful scenery.

It can’t be the people. Citizens of other countries can be just as generous, courteous, fun-loving, or anything-you-might-want.

It can’t be bravery. People have fought and died for their countries since the beginning of history.

And yet, there most certainly is — or was — something singular about America. What was it?

In my view, America’s uniqueness rested on three pillars.

The Bill of Rights

Voluntary Association

The Free Market

Cheap automotive and (especially) aviation fuel have been the leading material attraction for me, personally. I've enjoyed a high-grade abundance of everything else mentioned, all around the world.

Of what I see lacking in the USA, a shortfall that troubles me very much (and others have already alluded to it) is that critical thinking skills are deteriorating in the USA. Our consumerism has eroded many of our institutions into the equivalents of iconic "American" fast-food, and I worry about the long-term consequences of our ongoing sell-out. Teachers and professors are increasingly subject to customer (student) evaluations and superficial testing, rather than being encouraged and recognized for inspiring high academic standards and achievements. On campuses, in working life, and even at play, authoritarian security culture is creeping in mostly unopposed. Politics are becoming increasingly superficial, and civic apathy is accepted as a patriotic option (or even a virtue) while special interests eagerly fill in the void where engaged, informed democracy abdicates. Pluralism is being taken over by the behaviors of a branded herd. Anti-intellectualism, reactionism, and xenophobia have been ominously gaining ground.

I feel like an old codger, and alarmist to observe these things and often remark on them out loud. I know that this generation in the USA is having some serious trouble facing reality, and if more of us don't speak up and decide what to do together about it, we're in for a truly nasty fall.

I haven't given up. I don't consider the USA fatally flawed. Other nations are not immune to the same faults that we exhibit in the USA. There are many nations that I imagine would have handled the prominence that we have enjoyed in the USA even more irresponsibly.

For all of the harm that we have caused, I believe that if we manage to wizen up as a nation through the hardship ahead (and learn some humility too) then we may open a new and much brighter chapter in our story, more impressive than all our prior achievements. In the USA we still enjoy truly stupendous human and natural resources/potentials, and we can do so much better once we set our minds and collective willpower to it.

In my own life, I've had years of riding high, and then some knock-downs that have changed me profoundly. I think it's how we get back up that mostly defines us as people or nations. I hope to live to see my country learn and earn a new and deeper dignity; to see my country focused on the rewards of our own hard work and ingenuity; to see us abandon the blind exceptionalism and militarism that are isolating and bankrupting us in the world- I want the USA to bask in an unrivaled wealth of blissful liberty, but do it responsibly.
