The only light on right now is sitting on my desk and it's a Sylvania™ halogen, narrow floodlight, 50 watts. It's suppose to last 2500 hours. That's hard to verify.

But the lamp is Swedish. (Is it alright to say that here? God, I feel like I'm treading on thin ice. Risqué.)

No. Mine's not hanging but quite aloof and shooting straight up.

mine is covering the ceiling on my 2nd floor study.

Halogens have a comfortable emission from nice spherical heads and sometimes I take the lampshade completely off.

I'm partial to the compact fluorescent.

Halogens will burn your eyes out, they last a short time, they are power hogs, they are way too hot, and they are expensive. A desk lamp is great with just 8 white LEDS and it will last forever.
