They do run the government, and they're kicking a bunch of Arab ass. They will own the Middle East in a few more years.

Thats ridiculous. You're supporting America just as much when you buy Sony or Macintosh. Pretty much any company with a market in N America pays taxes.

As for corporations-- They're just there. Its still a democracy

It depends on where you're from.

Electected government that comes from politically aware ridings cares more about the issues. If they don't, they won't get elected (and TV advertisements can only do so much...)

Government that comes from 90% republican/democrat land- ie guaranteed victory- is going to care more about money. Simple logic. The more they can get away with, the more corrupt they will become.

In all, the system has a few obvious flaws. But the potential to have accountable government still exists.

Greed in capitalism is exploitation. <i>Exploitation</i> is its foundation. Progressive socialism would impose social responsibility on a free market.

Mutual exploitation is the foundation of capitalism... and that isn't bad at all. I give you something worthless to me but which you badly want. You give me something worthless to you which I badly want. We both make out like thieves, having each in turn exploited the other. And we are both better off for it.

I have sadly concluded that the military industrial complex is unfortunately very real.

I believe I read somewhere that America has something along the lines of 30%-50% (can't remember exact figure) Relative poverty (for those who don't know - Relative poverty is when a person lives bellow the minimum wage in their country p/a f/t - or somethign to that affect - Absolute Poverty = it doesn't matter where you are at, you live like S***) Back to the percentage figures in US for relative poverty... That's pretty bad for the most powerful/wealthy country in the world.

I think many can foresee some major economic problems for the US in the relatively nearish future (time frame doesn't matter -it's coming), which will really push many people into something more then relative poverty. This may cause a push for a more socialist system. How ever - given the fact that they (Americans) fought the Russian, Chinese, Cubans and Co. over what kind of economic system people/countries should have... I think America has to much pride to go over to the "evil" side.

Especially the issue of pollution in the US... You have all these corporations kissing Bush's ass and all of a sudden the quality of air, water, etc.. has gotten worse than it was when Clinton was in office.

In "Communist" (totalitarian) system there was as much greed as in Capitalist, GREED for POWER/CONTROL. Whatever the system is, the topguys sure does have plenty...
