For example, the Religion Forums are populated by atheists that just put religious people down just for the sake of... whatever. In the other hand, the religious folks don't respect the atheists either.

Even the Free Thoughts are populated by people that just post junk in threads, insulting other members and wasting other's times.

Common people! If you don't agree with someone, can you at least respect each other!?!? Don't you have anything better to do than making fun of people in a forums in the internet? Get a life! Truth to tell, I got nothing better to do right now, I have a problem with sleep, so I stay up late (right now it is 23:11 in Germany) even if I have to go to school in the morning. My friends, on the contrary, do not stay up late on normal schooldays. If they perchance do it anyway, they watch TV because they are too lazy to move. So pleeeeaaase do not blame me for venting my frustration a bit. Boredom is the worst friend. :(

As for "telling your mother that you might one day date a woman 10 years older", that is not the issue. The issue is wheter I should tell her that this is happening right NOW. You are probably not a parent, but parents are often concerned with their kid's decisions. It is not an easy job to be a parent. I think the key to answer my question is just how much my mother trust that I will make the right decision. Still, difference of age is certainly a common issue in relationships. And it might become an interesting discussion of that, if people don't use the thread just to insult me.

I believe there is a certain degree of sriousness that we should deal with things. For example, we have rules in society so that we can live through some guidelines and with some order. My seriousness ends in the point where everyone should respect one another. I don't mind making fun of myself and of things here. I don't mind making jokes. But seeing people insulting others or being insulted is simply unnaceptable.

this is a message board, what do you expect? just have fun with it.

I would agree that a certain degree of seriousness would not be so bad, but this is a free forum, so the people are free to post things they think funny.

Most of the conversations I have with people IRL are a waste of time...compared to that Sciforums is great. So it isn't a waste of time for me. As for insulting others; I use to be into it and then through examples of other posters I came to realize just how childish and laughable it is.

Carrying out a war of words with top notch insults against a digital character is a cause for revaluation of certain characteristics, as well as airing personal buisness in great detail. Anonymity and repose should be practiced more on any forum.

If you want intelligent conversation i suggest going out with your friends and talking to them. The people on this forum do not know each other and i'm guessing most of them would never get along if they met. That is why so many threads become worthless with meaningless messages where someone is trying to act smarter than someone else, as opposed to developing the discussion. there are some other forums out there where this happens less frequently, but generally i could only think to suggest going out to the local pub with friends.

It is pretty much a waste of time.

I'm guessing the average age here is somewhere around 23-24. What do you people expect? My first 160 or so posts, I never called anyone a name, much less swore. I stopped posting for a while, then came back. Now I curse a little and sometimes call people names. This is much more fun! Sure, I know it's childish, but I come here for the entertainment value mostly. I also try to help others out now and then by giving useful computer advice, etc. Look, people tend to have strong opinions about religion, politics, and a few other subjects. This is nothing new.
