This thread is inspired by the "Does masturbation affect you thread".
Apparently people here believe scientific fact is determined by the majority of people who vote in poles. The majority of the people said masturbation had no negative affect on people, and ALL of the masturbation threads were closed.
I would like to see this observation verified. Please post your answer to the pole and vote in the pole.

In answer to the question posed by the title of the thread, absolutetly not.
Scientific facts are determined by repeatable experiments which much produce identical results. Facts are not a matter of "popularity."
As to the other topic of yours, does misspelling poll as "pole" (several times) say anything about you personally? :D

in the strictest sense there are no facts
the only thing a scientist can do is determine if something is reliable enough to be considered fact.

who voted what is none of your business
to verify the observation please refer to the poll results
and to the numerus links that was given to you in the threads
it is not anyones fault that you choose to remain ignorant
by that i mean that you have chosen to ignore all the
evidence that contradicts you.
and for everyone else i suggest you let this troll rest in peace

Not totally correct, Leo. Once something has pretty well been tested to death, it moves from the realm of theory into fact. Consider gravity, the rotation of the Earth, that people die, etc. These are all accepted as facts.
(Of course another one now accepted as fact is that Happeth is a stubborn idiot.) :D

that is what i thought too.
then i discovered sciforums and got the education of my life
i repeat there are no facts only theories
if you doubt that statement do a little research on the topic

Science does not assume it knows the truth about the empirical world a priori. Science assumes it must discover its knowledge. Those who claim to know empirical truth a priori (such as so-called scientific creationists) cannot be talking about scientific knowledge. Science presupposes a regular order to nature and assumes there are underlying principles according to which natural phenomena work. It assumes that these principles or laws are relatively constant. But it does not assume that it can know a priori either what these principles are or what the actual order of any set of empirical phenomena is.

as you can tell this question troubles me greatly
because i have always thought there were facts
facts such as 2+3=5, the fact that i have 5 fingers
the fact that there is a sun and earth
it has been recently changed though

Happeh's antithesis is as accepted as gravity.

Perhaps it is slightly influenced by votes, but it is certainly not determined by posting pictures with red lines drawn on them on intrenet forums. Scientific fact requires actual proof and evidence. The poll was not to determine fact, it was research.
