View Full Version : Is sciforums becoming better?

Mr. Hamtastic

Problems:

Increasing negativity
Less "community" feeling

Positives:

Moderators are becoming more involved

I dunno, it seems like it's just becoming less and less enjoyable. Some intelligent posters are quietly fleeing... It just kind of sucks. I have no idea what can be done, or perhaps if this is just natural selection. I'm not gone yet, myself, but I may slip quietly away, going "cold turkey" like others have.

There are definitely more dicks on here than there used to be.

A witch hunt would not be uncalled for...

a witch hunt presumes witches are the ones being hunted for, witches are females...we dont have that many females on sciforums to hunt for and prosecute.

Well its certainly not as much fun anymore

I dunno. It's too... PC I guess. I feel like I have to walk on eggshells, watch everything I say. It makes me want to be more reticent and withdrawn. I have made friends here, though, and I guess that's what really sucks. The friends I have made are "Sciforums" friends. Without "Sciforums", I suspect the relationships will wither and die, which would be sad. Ah well.

We each take and give to this community. It is up to everyone to say whatever they want to add to this forum. Enjoyment to some means one thing while it means the just the opposite to others.

Sciforums is becoming better. Every day I wake up and smile because when I log on to Sciforums member greets me with joy and I am happy that this forum is becoming a better new place to interact and share information and joyful moments...pictures...our thoughts.

I agree. I'm usually not a nay-sayer or complainer, but I definitely used to have a lot more fun here than I do now. I think it will pick up though. I think its up to us to pick it back up though. I do agree with Ham though, it is pretty PC, and I do often feel like I should watch how I say things.

I feel so free on Sciforums, I feel like I can say anything I want...because this is true freedom of speech. And Sciforums is the place of joy and freedom. I love this place and it keeps getting better, the members are so joyful, the conversations are so interesting and discussions are peaciful.

As I sip some warm green tea, my eyes relax on the words typed by Sciforums members and I fall into everlasting ecstasy. What a delight.

Basically saying things in a way that is meant to spare the feelings of anyone who ever may possibly hear/read what you have said, and in the process, loose some of the real true and deep meaning of the thought due to having to say it in a way that is bland and unoffensive.

Every forum that's been around for a while with a large population has this problem.
It's called nostalgia.

Every morning sciforums atands in front of a mirror and repeats these words

Well I'm very bad at reigning in my thoughts so I am living on borrowed time. :p

But yeah, there are people here I would miss interacting with if [or rather when] I leave.

James R-Do you really think I'd report on such a thing? If they want to say they are going, that's up to them. Of course, by intelligent, I don't mean they solely post in the "expert" forums. I don't run in those circles, so I don't know. Just look around a bit, see who was once regular and has dropped off to seldom or never...

Mr. Hamtastic
12-09-08, 06:14 PM
Sam-catching up to you is no longer my goal... I may make 5k, but it'll probably be slower. I'm tapering off now...

All the fun posters are leaving. At least, the ones I used to enjoy reading for their distinctive viewpoints on mundane realities.

We're encouraging the brain dead and plebian, culling out the unique and opinionated. Natural selection vs directed evolution. Who wants to read the boring no-thinkers?

EntropyAlwaysWins

Boring = no thinking?
I would argue the opposite, even if only for the lulz.

Rubbish. Matt Marr was requested to post to Pseudoscience, however he had a habit of forgetting. We gave him many years of leeway, however his theorems/Conspiracies (without shred of proof) were just too beyond it to even be posted there. He did also post as MattMarriott originally (Funnily he picked a "Puppeteering" last name)

The main reason for his eventual banning was the fact that his threads:

Were not phrased to ask a question, discuss a point of view or opinion
Advertised his website/blog rather than ask for discuss in the thread
Could be found to have copies of the same Thread starter on other forums for the same advertising reason

It became obvious that he was really here not to post but to just Advertise, so he was nothing more than a glorified spammer.
