View Full Version : Is sciforums becoming better?
Mr. Hamtastic 12-08-08, 06:40 PM Problems:
Increasing negativity
Less "community" feeling
Positives:
Moderators are becoming more involved
I dunno, it seems like it's just becoming less and less enjoyable. Some intelligent posters are quietly fleeing... It just kind of sucks. I have no idea what can be done, or perhaps if this is just natural selection. I'm not gone yet, myself, but I may slip quietly away, going "cold turkey" like others have.
spidergoat 12-08-08, 06:42 PM I have heard this about once a month since I joined.

visceral_instinct 12-08-08, 06:54 PM There are definitely more dicks on here than there used to be.
A witch hunt would not be uncalled for...
a witch hunt presumes witches are the ones being hunted for, witches are females...we dont have that many females on sciforums to hunt for and prosecute.
EndLightEnd 12-08-08, 07:41 PM Yes definitely alot of impatience.
Well its certainly not as much fun anymore
Mr. Hamtastic 12-08-08, 08:47 PM I dunno. It's too... PC I guess. I feel like I have to walk on eggshells, watch everything I say. It makes me want to be more reticent and withdrawn. I have made friends here, though, and I guess that's what really sucks. The friends I have made are "Sciforums" friends. Without "Sciforums", I suspect the relationships will wither and die, which would be sad. Ah well.
cosmictraveler 12-08-08, 08:53 PM We each take and give to this community. It is up to everyone to say whatever they want to add to this forum. Enjoyment to some means one thing while it means the just the opposite to others.
Sciforums is becoming better. Every day I wake up and smile because when I log on to Sciforums member greets me with joy and I am happy that this forum is becoming a better new place to interact and share information and joyful moments...pictures...our thoughts.
it's only us pitiful humans change
skaught 12-08-08, 09:58 PM I agree. I'm usually not a nay-sayer or complainer, but I definitely used to have a lot more fun here than I do now. I think it will pick up though. I think its up to us to pick it back up though. I do agree with Ham though, it is pretty PC, and I do often feel like I should watch how I say things.
I feel so free on Sciforums, I feel like I can say anything I want...because this is true freedom of speech. And Sciforums is the place of joy and freedom. I love this place and it keeps getting better, the members are so joyful, the conversations are so interesting and discussions are peaciful.
As I sip some warm green tea, my eyes relax on the words typed by Sciforums members and I fall into everlasting ecstasy. What a delight.
:D Draqon you're cool.
Ok, so it isn't just us pitiful humans!
skaught 12-08-08, 10:27 PM Draqon, how do you feel about political correctness?
Draqon, how do you feel about political correctness?
oh everyone is just handling the issues on Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, President Bush with such a diplomatic peacifull approach, we are all just a happy family here, what can I say...the role models for all the governments of Earth.
skaught 12-08-08, 10:30 PM Ok, but how do you feel about political correctness?
Ok, but how do you feel about political correctness?
*searches on google what political correctness is exactly*
*draq dumb mode*
huh?
Anti reality, or... extra-reality :grumble:

Which ones?
Which ones?
Spud_Emperor, Oli, redarmy11 and countless countless of others...

Basically saying things in a way that is meant to spare the feelings of anyone who ever may possibly hear/read what you have said, and in the process, loose some of the real true and deep meaning of the thought due to having to say it in a way that is bland and unoffensive.

...skaught I cant think straight today, maybe tomorrow I will re-read that and reply coherently.

Every forum that's been around for a while with a large population has this problem.
It's called nostalgia.
Captain Kremmen 12-09-08, 04:12 AM Every morning sciforums atands in front of a mirror and repeats these words
"Every day, in every way, I'm getting better and better"
Tous les jours à tous points de vue je vais de mieux en mieux
Emile Coue

Well I'm very bad at reigning in my thoughts so I am living on borrowed time. :p
But yeah, there are people here I would miss interacting with if [or rather when] I leave.
Captain Kremmen 12-09-08, 12:46 PM Reigning.
A Freudian slip, Sam.
You mean reining.
Captain Kremmen 12-09-08, 12:49 PM Btw.
Happy 50,000 posts anniversary.
Hamtastic will never catch you up no matter how hard he tries.
I used to think I would never catch up to spurious, then he got permabanned and graciously left me the field, so one never knows. :shrug:
Mr. Hamtastic 12-09-08, 06:13 PM James R-Do you really think I'd report on such a thing? If they want to say they are going, that's up to them. Of course, by intelligent, I don't mean they solely post in the "expert" forums. I don't run in those circles, so I don't know. Just look around a bit, see who was once regular and has dropped off to seldom or never...
Mr. Hamtastic 12-09-08, 06:14 PM Sam-catching up to you is no longer my goal... I may make 5k, but it'll probably be slower. I'm tapering off now...

the fate of those who reached the top...
...are you not afraid of destiny crawling up from behind you?

Mr. Hamtastic 12-09-08, 06:15 PM Nostalgia? I joined in August for crying out loud...
EntropyAlwaysWins 12-09-08, 06:24 PM On the internet, nostalgia seems to work on increasingly short time scales.
True, I can't believe I've only been here three !! years, I feel like the grand old lady of sciforums and reminisce fondly of the good ole days. :bawl:

do you? is your skin falling off?
3 years is nothing...
compared to eternity in hell.
HAHAHAHAHA

USS Exeter 12-09-08, 09:31 PM One year for me so far. It just seemed homey at first and now it's a little more standoffish.
Mr. Hamtastic 12-10-08, 06:12 AM loss of sense of community...
Captain Kremmen 12-10-08, 08:21 AM Which ones?
James R. Leave Hammy alone.:(
Hammy. Leave James R alone.:(
Can't you two stay on separate threads for a week or two?
madanthonywayne 12-12-08, 01:55 AM Well its certainly not as much fun anymore
Why do you think that is? Just natural change? Over-moderation? Under-moderation?
I have no idea what can be done

you can wear a mask and a cute bunny costume...a mask to get the good air out of Sciforums and a bunny costume to make life pleasurable for us all.
Captain Kremmen 12-12-08, 03:07 AM Draqon. You want Mr Hamtastic to wear a bunny costume:confused:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sam. People have got used to you, and don't argue so much any more.
All the fun posters are leaving. At least, the ones I used to enjoy reading for their distinctive viewpoints on mundane realities.
We're encouraging the brain dead and plebian, culling out the unique and opinionated. Natural selection vs directed evolution. Who wants to read the boring no-thinkers?
EntropyAlwaysWins 12-15-08, 08:58 AM Boring = no thinking?
I would argue the opposite, even if only for the lulz.
Well they did ban Matt Marr too and I miss my illuminati updates. :(
EntropyAlwaysWins 12-15-08, 09:05 AM Matt Marr? before my time I presume.
Blessed are the cracked, for they shall let in the light.
EntropyAlwaysWins 12-15-08, 09:43 AM Banned after 193 posts.....wow....that's a rather dubious honour, although I suppose it doesn't count the cesspooled (it's a verb now, yes?) threads.
He was requested to post only in the cesspool and he obliged. Still, he was banned.:(
phlogistician 12-15-08, 10:40 AM SF has got better yes. Since SAM got busted I've had her on ignore! Fewer lies to read = better SF.
The ones, you are referring to, who left just got tired of being you foil, your dupe.
Stryder 12-16-08, 08:56 AM He was requested to post only in the cesspool and he obliged. Still, he was banned.:(
Rubbish. Matt Marr was requested to post to Pseudoscience, however he had a habit of forgetting. We gave him many years of leeway, however his theorems/Conspiracies (without shred of proof) were just too beyond it to even be posted there. He did also post as MattMarriott originally (Funnily he picked a "Puppeteering" last name)
The main reason for his eventual banning was the fact that his threads:
Were not phrased to ask a question, discuss a point of view or opinion
Advertised his website/blog rather than ask for discuss in the thread
Could be found to have copies of the same Thread starter on other forums for the same advertising reason
It became obvious that he was really here not to post but to just Advertise, so he was nothing more than a glorified spammer.
