Jesse Jackson says he's pleased the producers of "Barbershop" have apologized for the film's barbs about Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr. and others, but still wants the jokes cut from future DVD and video editions of the hit movie.

…Jackson said they must go further and remove those scenes from the video, DVD and cable versions. (Full text here (http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/news/92302_nw_barbershop.html))In other words, Jackson is calling for censorship.

I suppose that he is most concerned with the crack against himself. MLK and Parks both have secure places in history. Does Jackson? I think some of this joking around has him worried.

Peace.

Jesse Jackson should crawl under a rock and die. As the director said, this crap is silly.

Pardon me using profanity, but fuck jessie jackson. Proud idiot does nothing but stir up trouble and claim to be holy when he is really scum.

He is on a PR mission for the black community who listens to gangsta rap. At home he probably has alot of 24k golden statues neatly aligned in his room.

Jesse Jackson only represents himself, no one respects him except Media outlets who know he will cause controversy. He should worry more about his own affairs(and mistresses), than what's in a comedy movie.

As a general rule, Final Cut is Final Cut. I cannot think of any occasion in my life where I would appreciate the altering of a film's final cut for reasons of censorship.

Aside from that:

• It would seem that the characterizations of Jesse Jackson make him a pretty normal American. Why would anyone have a problem with this in general?

• If everyone with stupid objections to something crawled under rocks and died, it would be the end of the United States, at least, and possibly all of humanity. Except, of course, for the dishonest ones who only pretended to crawl under a rock.

• Jesse Jackson definitely ought to know better than to call for censorship.

• Jesse Jackson needs to stop being a politician long enough to get back in touch with the black community; I think he'll find things much different than he pictured it. There are among black movements in college resegregation sentiments. While I admire the goal of a harmonious rainbow society, at some point, I have to admit that people want to be separate and fractured and angry. At least at that point, we're all equal in our misery. So I can understand why he seeks a higher harmonic nexus, but we have to face reality: if a Rosa Parks joke is good, then it's a good joke.

• I'll actually be seeing the movie this weekend, but I cannot imagine what could possibly alter these remarks in any significant way.

• And if it truly is an offensive joke, well ... that's how these writers, producers, directors, and actors wish to represent themselves, and I'm more than happy to hold them to it. I actually hope that part of my artistic heritage, when I die, is that I did, in fact, violate common decency at some point and set new standards within the public regard for art. And I will happy to be known as the guy who broke that rule. I just hope to do it better than most. The object should never be to offend directly, but if one must offend as a necessity to the story, well ... offend massively. "Safe" humor often becomes even more dangerous, but that becomes a long discourse.

'Nuff said.
