View Full Version : Labiaplasty, women, is it for you?

Labiaplasty (also labioplasty, labia minor reduction, and labial reduction) is plastic surgery of either the labia majora or the labia minora or both — the external folds of skin surrounding the structures of the vulva — in order to reduce the size of elongated labia. Moreover, a labiaplasty that creates labia where there were none, usually is a subordinate procedure within a vaginoplasty, plastic surgery of the vagina. The medical and sociologic reasons for labial reduction include the correction of labial damage occurred during childbirth, the elimination of pain and discomfort consequent to larger and enlarged labia, and for personal, æsthetic reasons.

I was wondering if many women even know about this procedure? If so would they consider it?

Well if we can allow male circumcision I don't see why not this, the labia and foreskin identical tissues. A vaginaplasty makes less sense though: if a women wants to tighten her vagina she can do so for far cheaper with a vagina weight set (http://www.shopinprivate.com/femvagweigtr.html) which has proven world record results (http://current.com/news/90382553_russian-lifts-14kg-with-her-vagina.htm).

Its on the increase in the UK.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8352711.stm

Researchers from University College London reviewed all the existing studies on cosmetic labial surgery - which generally involves reducing the amount of tissue that protrudes from the lips which cover the vagina. They found there had been little work to document any longer-term side effects.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/health/newsid_7676000/7676108.stm

James Murray, from medical group Surgicare said: "In the last year we've seen a 300% increase in the procedures we've undertaken.

"And over the last three years we've seen a 700% increase in the number of enquiries for this particular procedure."

Many of the operations are done by private medical groups and can cost up to £3000. But in the past five years the number of women having it done on the NHS has doubled.

I think they were talking about documenting side effects from patients who had them ages ago.

The problem is that porno magazines remove the labia with various techniques prior to publishing, such as photoshoping out the folds. So now women think there is something wrong with their body.

I suppose if my boobs were too big I'd have them reduced, so if my labia was too big, why not? Its just a body part.

you know, i really couldn't tell you what mine looked like. i remember thinking it wasn't the prettiest thing i'd ever seen. i suppose if every time i had spread my legs someone had said, "oh dear god" in a bad way i would have looked into it more. but every time i spread my legs someone says "oh dear god" in a good way, so apparently my god given labia shall suffice.

But women who have breast reductions usually are having a lot of back pain from those mammoth honkers. Not to mention the bras.
Good Goddess, my friend not only has a lot of shoulder pain...she gets to pay 60$ for one bra!

She wants a reduction, but the docs won't until she's had a kid.

The worst practical effect of having long labia minora...is having to tuck prior to riding a bicycle, or buying a seat for same that doesn't abrade in that particular spot.

After a few miles, it can get quite painful.

Oh...
In that case, I'm afraid we need a normal vulva gallery,to match the following:

If you can find this I would be greatful. Would be quite useful for my thread on sexual repression (though I really should have named it sexuality repression)

You have to see the relative difference to understand what labiaplasty is - its entirely cosmetic

It's their body and they are consenting adults. That said, I'd hope they are doing it purely for themselves and not because they've gotten the idea from pornography that short labia are normal and if you have long ones there is something wrong.

From what I have read, its a cosmetic issue - women nowadays wear thong bikinis, sheer bikinins, shave pubic hair or go for brazilians in parlors. So there is a lot more of labias on display where it was not a issue before. And of course, women talk and comment on such things and garner opinions of what looks better. I'm assuming most women with brazilians do not have a preference for labia flapping on either side of a thong bikini. Also the whole obsession with the prepubescent look.

Just saying/

Why do women feel the need to go on near-nude display at beaches? That's part of the problem right there.

I have no problem with modesty. A healthy covering of one's body isn't something to be ashamed of.

I'm recalling a good specific example on this forum.
There was a drawing of such a garment here a while back. It was a wonderfully simple black, body-length robe, with a hood that covered most of the face except for the eyes. The model herself was wielding a knife, and possibly chasing down her fashion detractors.

The only problem with that example, is that the chest area was open, laying the breasts bare, which really undermined the modesty function of that particular dress. Nothing that some thread and needles couldn't fix. Or even some discreet safety pins.

Have you ever seen one of those?

I wish I had that graphic on hand.

Maybe that was the reason she was chasing someone with a knife? They were the culprits who had ripped the chest area of the garment, and she was out for revenge?

Hmmmm... :scratchin:

There is nothing wrong with the human body, if someone wants to go naked (man or women) good on them. The body is beautiful and should be cellibrated, not shunned

I don't think the issue is so much about nudity, consider plumping up lips and toes with Botox. Body mutilation - whether ritual or cosmetic - is about social conformity with the peer group. As for memorable graphics, to date nothing has beaten the image of the daughter [Courtney Peldon] in Say It Isn't So, flashing her bare breasts with nipple piercings as a symbol of her teen angst [‘I got my ears pierced because I wanted to. I got these pierced because I hate you!' - graphic image (http://www.themakeupgallery.info/images/various/pierce/sayit7.jpg) ]. When looking for logical reasoning as to why anyone would mutilate themselves, I always flash back on that scene as an example of how demonstrations of conformity don't have to make sense.

That may well be, but I'm wondering where that picture of the body covering for women is? Someone made that drawing and posted it here. I think they even said that YOU were the model, but you're not a computer graphic, those liars!

Pierced nipples and conformity... someday, piercings and barcode tattoos will be the norm, and those of us without them will be seen as radical. I can't wait.

A true story published in Readers Digest: After a horrible car crash in 1968, a woman's lips are reconstructed using grafts from her labia because the graft had to endure the constantly moist environment of the mouth.

http://nongae.gsnu.ac.kr/~bkkim/won/won_130.html

Conversation between doctor and patient:

"At first," he explained, "I couldn't figure how to make up for the mucosa [mucous membrane] you'd be missing from the upper lip after the operation. Then it dawned on me that you have an unlimited, undamaged source of healthy mucosa if you won't mind my performing a clinical trial on something that has never been tried before."

"Where's the donor site?" I asked eagerly.

"I want to use vaginal mucosa," he said. "The tissues of the mouth and vagina are similar."

I couldn't respond at first, but then I found it amusing. "When can you begin?"

The lengths people go to just to look and feel "sexy" are astounding.
Make-up
Tanning
Nails
Hair dye
waxing
Shaving
piercing
painting
tattoo
bleaching
Fake breasts
Fake butt
liposuction

I mean, my goodness. Sometimes I think we fight all of these wars just because women like to show there asses to eachother in public.

You say the lengths "people" will go to, but almost every one of those on that list is a woman thing. Women spend way more on looking fake than men do.
Men have been getting faker lately though. I can't wait till they start wearing "man" makeup.

Then there's always the standard body building narcissists who have to work out all the time. They kind of start to look "cookie cutter" too.

Really a bunch of zombie herd creatures with shallow ideals and a morality to match.

Thanks SAM, that worked.

I don't think hanging silver gargoyles from those would feel all that good though. Kinda silly thing to do to oneself IMHO. Bit of a waste of money too, unless she has an admirer that likes that stuff a lot. Does not do a thing for me at all, however. :o

As I recall, the African ladies who hang the big, heavy ear accoutrements from their lobes end up with very stretched - out ear lobes, large hanging loops of flesh. I must assume the same results from hanging weights from other parts of the body as well.
I am glad that my wife has always worn support bras and exercised regularly. :)

I do a few of those, and I occasionally wear makeup of sorts, but I don't do them to look sexy. I dye my hair black because I prefer pure black to scorched-earth brown, and I paint my nails because...wait for it...I like color.
