View Full Version : Metallica
ralph nader 02-18-03, 04:50 PM Any word on who the new bassist is going to be? I have heard most recently it is Les Claypool. I know he originally auditioned after the death of Cliff Burton. If I recall correctly, they stated that he was too talented at the time. Either that means, he has lost some talent or they have achieved a higher status.
Weren't they looking for a new drummer????
Slacker47 02-18-03, 08:53 PM I have heard most recently it is Les Claypool.
No fucking way. Les Claypool in Metallica? They will probably get some washed up grunge rocker guy. Metallica's sound has gotten way too mainstream. They used to be about death and hatrid, and then they got money and wrote songs for Mission Impossible. They dont even play fast anymore. Its really depressing. Even Megadeth never got THAT shitty. Though, Metallica's early stuff kicks alot of ass.
NightFall 02-18-03, 11:09 PM not a clue but ill tell you after i see them on the fourth (july) ... maybe... ;)
amplified 02-19-03, 07:20 AM Metallica will own this years festival in Roskilde, Denmark. Last time I saw them was 1996, a concert I'll never forget. I cant wait!
By the way, anyone else going to Roskilde?
NightFall 02-19-03, 02:40 PM not me. i think im going to the silverdome. to be honest, i havn't really been paying sttention, it was the b/f's idea, but i got a thing in my email that the radio station i listen to plans to be giving out tickets.. goody!. lol. they're $75 a peice. :(
I was gonna go to the Reading Festival with a friend, but I was too late and now I'm gonna miss Metallica :(
ralph nader 02-26-03, 06:38 PM It is ROB TRUJILLO from Ozzy and Suicidal Tendancies!
Should be interesting.
You Killed Jesus 02-26-03, 08:48 PM Wow... people still take this band seriously?
I thought it had pretty much been agreed that Metallica are now artistically bankrupt.
ubermich 02-26-03, 09:07 PM yeah, 8 years ago i never thought the day would come when james hetfields voice would annoy the fuck out of me.
hey u guyz r poseurs 4 dissn mettalica bcuz they invented heavy metal way back bcuz they wrote that song "enter sandman" which is probly the heaviest song i've ever herd. u guyz r pussys bcuz u dont like heavy metal like mettalica the new songs are good but its too bad the original bassist left the band he was so good. i think they should get the dude from limp bizkit, they r another good heavy metal band
NightFall 02-26-03, 10:45 PM ah! ah! reformedtopunk, he'd ^ make a great poster child for "those" people... -giggles. ;)

ubermich 02-26-03, 11:04 PM yeah that's pretty sad. i dont even know nebula, and yet i knew he couldnt be that stupid to truly believe something like that...
NightFall 02-26-03, 11:10 PM come on now, im not that dumb... i would have noticed you a long time ago with 500+posts. ;)
Yay! And tonight was the magical night where I reached and exceeded 500!
Spector 02-26-03, 11:16 PM Metallica is by no means metal... anymore... hard rock these days. If you can accept it for what it is, it's some GREAT, GREAT stuff. But then again when you begin your career by setting yourself up as rebels who are the ultimate anti-sellout machine pumping out metal madness 24/7 and build up a fan base on that image... you can't be surprised when you get totally bashed by your most hardcore fans after you completely turn on that image and become everything you've trained your audience to hate. Let me rewrite the lyrics from "whiplash" by metallica to better suit their past 10 years or so of contribution to music... here's the original...
"Bang your head against the stage
Like you never did before
Make it ring Make it bleed
Make it really sore
In a frenzied madness
with your leather and your spikes
Heads are bobbing all around
It is hot as hell tonight"
What we might see if this song was written today...
"Nod your head to the beat
When you hear us in a store
Make it rock Make it groove
It's way extreme softcore
In a radio friendly madness
with your Khakis and your fleece
people sleeping all around
Off to never never land"
That didn't quite rhyme. I'm tired. Do I make sense? Anyway... nothing against Rockallica, I'm still into them, but I don't quite get them. I mean their on tour with Linkin Park and LIMP BIZKIT... I'm going to go hang my head in eternal shame for them. ETERNAL... SHAME.... LIMP BIZKIT... LIMP.... BIZKIT... metallica... and limp BIZKIT??? bizkit? biz... allica? met.... no matter how I say it, those two names do NOT belong anywhere near a sentence together. (eternal shame)
The Marquis 02-27-03, 07:17 AM Can you imagine trying to make angsty anti-establishment metal music after you've made it as a band?
"Well, I'm rich, I'm comfortable, I have everything I ever wanted... now, let's go write some lyrics for the fans. Er... any ideas? anyone? I'm kinda having problems getting in the mood, you know....anyone remember what it was like when we were young and poor and really, really, pissed off at everything?"

Wasn't that the year some people died while pearl jam was doing the song "alive" (damn can you see the irony in that or what)?
Never did get the hang of Metallica, but I developed what appreciation for them I do have too late. I like Metallica a la Cliff Burton, and it has to be pointed out that Flotsam and Jetsam got better after Newstead departed to join Metallica.
But Metallica has always defied my comprehension. I know a lot of people who think "And Justice" is their best album despite an interview I read shortly after its release in which Hetfield ragged on the mix; my one rule is to pay attention to what an artist says. You don't have to believe it, but it's valuable.
However, my favorite Metallica album is Ride the Lightning, though my favorite track is probably "Disposable Heroes", from Master of Puppets.
Metallica, long overrated, has nonetheless, with their dedication, earned wholeheartedly the right to sell themselves out completely.
Not a fan, but I learned ages ago to stop going out of my way to knock them. Fans are fans, and "tomorrow" counts as progress. Even among my precious Floater-fan brothers and sisters, it's hard to go an evening without hearing a gaggle of justification for the latest project. None of them are bad, but I think they'll probably be longest remembered for Angels in the Flesh and Devils in the Bone, at least, comparing their current works; and as with Metallica, who should be best remembered for Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets, who knows what the future brings?
I was happy to hear them do "Whiskey in the Jar", but I've heard better .... ;)
thanx,
Tiassa
BloodSuckingGerbile 03-02-03, 11:43 AM With all my appreciation to metallica, and their old stuff, which, in my opinion, is divine, I think what everybody do - the unthinkable has happened and Metallica sold out (as soon as they released the song with Ja Cock).
I understand Jason Newsted for doing what he did and I also understand Metallica. People change, you know. They can't stay the same as they were in college after more than 25 years, and besides, there is no such a thing as "too much money". People get attracted to money. Hmm... writing for fans... writing for money... fans... money... You'd say you choose fans, but your attitude will change after more than two decades in the music business. With the selling out of Metallica their era is over, and they should stay in our memories as one of the greatest bands ever and give their way to the new generation of metal bands to take the good old metal into the future and preserve it, no matter what the cost is.
NightFall 03-05-03, 01:34 AM (as soon as they released the song with Ja Cock). i havn't heard that. but ive heard ABOUT it.. and i think its pretty awful...

Oh yes. For your own sake, don't hear it. It is... chillingly scary. Can't find a better word. Seriously. Ja Whore? What were they thinking? How could they even... talk with him? I can't stand his voice. he's like... farting from his mouth. Yuck...
pumpkinsaren'torange 03-05-03, 10:21 AM ..all's i can say is..."Lars"
