HOLY CRAP!!!

...Slim and his family own a fortune equivalent to 8 percent of Mexico's gross domestic product.

I find it interesting that his parents immigrated to Mexico. They are Lebanese.

Almost every thread I post in becomes political very fast. This one will too. Talking about him helping his people get out of poverty will also become political. You can move it if you want. I don't care.

The richest man in the world lives in Mexico City. Hell, he could employ the 20+ million criminal aliens we have here for life!

Most billionaires are from the US, can’t they help their fellow neighbors?

We are. We pay more taxes than anyone else. the top 25% of wage earners pay 84% of all taxes.

"The top 1% paid 36.7% of federal income taxes "and 25.3% of all federal taxes in 2004. The top 20% of income earners paid 67.1% of all federal taxes. By contrast, families in the bottom 40% of income earners, incomes below $36,300, typically paid NO federal income tax and received money back from the government." :(

We give more to charity than anyone else.

And this is not Mexico. Anyone here can be rich unless he's a loser and just wants to collect welfare.

Most American Billionairs are the self made variety-- by creating corporations that employ millions they've done pleanty to help their fellow man. You don't hear anybody from Dell, Birshire-Hathaway, Microsoft, Oracle, eBay.com, Amazon.com complaining about their jobs that wouldn't have otherwise existed without the innovation and drive of their creators. Moreover, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet (both of whom have donated their funds to the same charity), Ted Turner and Oprah Winfrey (to name a few) have pledged practically all their wealth to the helping of others. I have yet to hear of such philantropy from billionairs outside the USA.

I think she was referring to the "welfare" part... not the income factor. Also, people who never strive to be something better ARE losers.

For example: a monk living a vow of poverty and seeking spiritual enlightenment is NOT a loser: they are SEEKING something.

Most people who make a lifestyle of living on welfare are devoid of ambition and are the quintisential definition of a "loser".

It's not all about money either. Rich in spirit/Christ is better.

Quitting often makes someone a loser. Quitting God, quitting ambition/ motivation, quitting life...

I have to laugh at everyone mocking the rich. They have more to give to the gospel and its' cause. I never received anything from anyone who was broke.

And string was right.

I suppose he could, but then he wouldn't be rich then. This is directly related to the illegal immigration problem, since the Mexican government if controlled (not unlike our own in many ways) by a rich well-connected elite.

Is there a need to? I have no contoll, no vote and no influence in what happens in other countries... therefore, it doesn't matter. There are pleanty of issues here that Americans can worry about.

Most American Billionairs are the self made variety-- Last I saw a list, the proportion was under half ( in the top ten, IIRC four were WalMart heirs and heiresses )

Unless by "self-made" we are including the inheritors of millions who made billions with them

but as far as the world's riches man being Mexican, I think we can all celebrate the strenghening of the Mexican economy that represents, according to our resident capitalists. And I'm sure he pays a lot in taxes, so his wealth is of benefit to his country. Good news for Mexico !

Trash your country? Illegal immigrants probably work many of the jobs cleaning up trash, left behind by lazy Americans complaining about how they took our jobs.

Unless you live here and really SEE what criminal aliens are doing you'll NEVER understand. I have posted this ad nauseum: they are ruining our schools/hospitals/jails/welfare system/neighborhoods/country/etc...

It's like the whole third world moved in here and is just trashing the place. Parts of CA are like Mexico--complete with their flags.

You want them? We'll send a few million over to YOUR neighborhood and see how YOU like it.

I see nothing in any of the responses that refutes that illegal aliens are "invading" America sandy. Most of them refute the inane opinions regarding such migration that you appear to hold.

What you seem to fail to grasp is that this is not just an "American" issue, but a global one. People everywhere try to escape poverty.

IMO, it is a problem that the "West" have been instrumental in creating. The classic example being the World Bank lending millions upon millions of dollars for large scale construction projects such as the Aswan Dam, that quite simply were never needed. I find it strange that Africa was self sufficient before Europeans arrived on the scene. Why do you try and wash your hands of this global problem? Is it because, "I'm alright Jack"?

Damn..y'all are some cut-throat, hardcore mf's.

I live in Texas. In 1992, I worked construction. With only a high school diploma, I made $10 a hour ($16-17 in today's money)...and the population of the job site was pretty much even between white, hispanic, and black.

I looked into some construction work recently...it now pays $7.50 an hour, and every person working is spanish-only speaking, with the exception of the foreman..who's white.

We don't hate Mexicans. We welcome them here...they're hard workers. The problem is with illegal status, they have to accept whatever is offered to them. They just don't know what their labor is worth here....and unscrupulous employers take advantage of this...and lower the wages for everyone.

Oh, I understand quite well.

Immigrants are hard workers. I reside here in San Diego, smack dab next to Tijuana, and I see them everyday. They are honest, polite, hardworking, social, and friendly people.

There are many Mexican flags as well. I do not mind at all - not to mention this land was once a part of Mexico. It's just a basic reflection of history of the land.

A University of California study found that immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than proper American citizens.

Think of it this way, Sandy:

If the Mexicans and other Latinos come here, bring us disease, steal our children, rape our women, kill us in large numbers, and eventually displace us from the land and establish themselves as the dominant political power, they will be more "American" than you or me. We may have been born here, but we've never been truly American.

Or maybe I shouldn't presume that. How many babies have you killed for the color of their skin? How many scalps have you taken for bounty? How many people have you implemented biological warfare against? None, none, and none? Hell, you're like me--definitively un-American.

At least, according to history.
