View Full Version : Music for exercising
Hi there.
I am looking for some good music to listen to / keep pace when exercising.
To give you some idea of what I'm looking for - this one seems quite suitable: Fatboy Slim - Right here, right now (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R795KiMD4zs)
More suggestions?
Thanks!
christa 11-07-09, 02:39 PM anything that seems to cheer up your day is great to use... i like upbeat tempos, things that make me feel sexy, and stuff my daughter and I can play around with.. and then we end up dancing and singing around the house like maniacs! haha

I love some songs off the "Mortal Kombat" soundtrack. Check it out. Also, Vince Di Cola has 2 instrumental themes on Rocky IV that are fucking fantastic, "War" and "Training Montage". I also like "Face The Pain" by Stemm which is the opening theme for Ultimate Fighting Championship ppv events.
i like "ghosts" from nin. it's all instrumental...kinda funky...good rhythms and beats, AND it's over an hour long. i put it in the player and run up and down my stairs til it's over. phew! good stuff!
Fraggle Rocker 12-31-09, 04:39 PM My wife and I made several tapes for exercising--although it's been a few years so there are no current hits. Since we use an exercycle and a treadmill, one of the main criteria was a driving beat that makes ya want to keep on walking/pedaling. That led us to good medium-tempo dance tunes, rather than some of our favorite prog rockers that either change rhythm every fourteen bars or else are in 11/4 time like Rush. Other than that, they just have to be songs that we're not going to get tired of after listening to them a bunch of times. Here are some of our picks:Black Sabbath: Rock and Roll Doctor The Cars: Moving in Stereo Concrete Blonde: Dance along the Edge The Cult: Big Neon Glitter Eurythmics: Revival Peter Gabriel: Sledgehammer Golden Earring: Twilight Zone INXS: Suicide Blonde Michael Jackson: Billie Jean Cyndi Lauper: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun M: Pop Muzik Nine Inch Nails: Sanctified Terri Nunn: 89 Lines PiL: The Body Robbie Robertson: Hell's Half Acre Roxy Music: Manifesto Sisters of Mercy: Dominion/Mother Russia Styx: Too Much Time on My Hands U2: Mysterious Ways
Tone Depth- Rumblefish(Maher Daniel Remix)
Topher Jones- Barclay and Max
Whelan & Di Scala- Cuba
Alex Millan- Modern Love
To name a few.

I use rave/techno when I work out. It's not my normal music, but it keeps me pumped up.
skaught 01-06-10, 11:29 PM Marilyn Manson gets me super pumped. I like to get as pissed off as I possibly can while I'm working out so I can vent my anger in a healthy manner. I pity the fool who confronts me shortly after my workout  It also allows me to go at it much harder. Manson and Tool both do a good job of getting me there. Funny thing about tool though, is that they can also really calm me down when I want to relax.
But if I really want to get my blood pumping, The album Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson is the best.
Oh, also these songs:

Damn... I would love to kill someone to that music *Shit, did I say that? or was I just thinking it... Did they hear me?"
spidergoat 01-06-10, 11:56 PM Soundtrack to "The Wiz".
Try Again 01-07-10, 10:09 PM Listen to all of Jethro Tull's song "Thick as a Brick" That'll be almost your whole workout.
Look it up on youtube... I don't have enough posts to post a link.
quadraphonics 01-08-10, 07:25 PM If you want to get super pumped, go with Slayer or Children of Bodom. I swear I can run like 25% faster, indefinitely, as long as I have one of those two bands blasting.
If electronic music is more your thing, I've had a lot of luck with Crystal Method and various hard drum'n'bass (Dom & Roland, Technical Itch).
If you like a more relaxed workout, I'd go with some Creedence.
Soundtrack to "The Wiz".
laughing burns calories. :D
Try ambient music from Boards of Canada:
Boards of Canada - In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country

Boards of Canada - Music Is Math

and more wonderful songs from them...
Hatha Yoga works best with these.
Orleander 01-08-10, 08:03 PM the same music you have sex to.....except Barry White. That would be odd.
Omega133 01-08-10, 08:29 PM I find rock and roll the best. It's fast and energetic.Try...
Seek and Destroy-MetallicA
Thunderstruck-AC/DC
Rollin-Limpbizcit
Down with the sickness-Disturbed
Right Now-Korn
Walk this way-Aerosmith(Run DMC mix)
Their are many others, but these are some of the tops. The key to workout music is a steady rythm.
the same music you have sex to.....except Barry White. That would be odd.
metallica it is then.
Omega133 01-19-10, 08:28 PM MetallicA is the best metal band in the world.

LondonLisbonite 10-10-11, 11:02 AM Quite a metalhead myself too (that and 20's music...somewhat diverse selection, I admit), but something a little silly and fun always gets me going, something like Maniac by Michael Sembello.
Kittamaru 10-10-11, 12:13 PM If you are looking for something just to keep pace to as you run, a good old fashioned marine/army cadence could work:
He was just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright,
He checked off his equipment and made sure his pack was tight;
He had to sit and listen to those awful engines roar,
"You ain't gonna jump no more!"
(CHORUS)
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
he ain't gonna jump no more!
"Is everybody happy?" cried the Sergeant looking up,
Our Hero meekly answered "Yes," and then they stood him up;
He jumped into the icy blast, his static line unhooked,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
He counted long, he counted loud, he waited for the shock,
He felt the wind, he felt the cold, he felt the awful drop,
The silk from his reserve spilled out and wrapped around his legs,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
The risers wrapped around his neck, connectors cracked his dome,
Suspension lines were tied in knots around his skinny bones;
The canopy became his shroud; he hurtled to the ground.
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
The days he'd lived and loved and laughed kept running through his mind,
He thought about the girl back home, the one he'd left behind;
He thought about the medics, and wondered what they'd find,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
The ambulance was on the spot, the jeeps were running wild,
The medics jumped and screamed with glee, rolled up their sleeves and smiled,
For it had been a week or more since last a 'chute had failed,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
He hit the ground, the sound was "SPLAT" his blood went spurting high,
His comrades were all heard to say "A hell of a way to die!"
He lay there rolling round in the welter of his gore,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.
(CHORUS)
(slowly, solemnly; about half the speed of the other verses)
There was blood upon the risers, there were brains upon the chute,
Intestines were a'dangling from his Paratrooper suit,
He was a mess, they picked him up and poured him from his boots,
And he ain't gonna jump no more
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
And he ain't gonna jump no more!
Till I Collapse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3oBZ4_TNys) is the best one IMO
It makes me want to smash a QB or to truck a few defensive backs :D

That's a good idea!
Thanks!
(Although I'm not sure I will use that text that you posted ...)

Lose Yourself (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO2wA0Te0wM)
IMO it is the best for running, you can pace and time your breathing with the beats, which help control your heart rate.
For sprinting and footwork, Remember the Name (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDvr08sCPOc) is probably the best.

I think I remember hearing that one in Band Of Brothers. Ofcourse, that was about paratroopers.
