View Full Version : Nemesis opens soon
Pollux V 11-22-02, 03:55 PM I've loved Star Trek for awhile, and the last movie was actually pretty good, but I'm getting skeptical about the supposed last installment (although they apparently left plenty of holes open for sequels, according to the various actors involved). I've heard that it's supposed to appeal to a wider audience, to generate more revenue, etc etc.
What do I interpret that as saying?
Bigger explosions, and more nudity. That's not what I want to see in a trek film, because once upon a time the series was about discovery, about inner conflict, about the frontiers of modern day science expressed in a 24th century world. It just doesn't seem to be that way anymore. Now, it's just people fighting and fighting, while action is good and definitely a requirement of any scifi film, what makes science fiction such an attractive genre is the frontier it imposes upon us, that is, the extraordinary human imagination, and our uncanny ability to turn fiction into reality.
Your thoughts?
More childish and dumber gags too!!
Pollux V 11-22-02, 07:39 PM With Star Trek and Star Wars seemingly failing, or at least finishing out, and with Lord of the Rings concluding in a few years, it looks like soon we'll have a lack of any trilogies or series that are popular. This seems pretty dismal. We need more, and we've always had something.
CounslerCoffee 11-22-02, 09:15 PM Pollux you of all people should know that even number startrek movies dont suck.
Pollux V 11-22-02, 09:49 PM The last one wasn't even, and neither was Generations. They were both awesome. In my opinion.
But the idea that Generations is awesome apparently isn't shared by that many......
I think Stargate: SG-1 is worthy enough now to take the reigns from either Star Trek or Star Wars
Its more relevant to us. Its set in the present and aliens are trying to kill us!! I mean, come on!! If thats not a reason to see an SG-1 film, I don't know what is
Its not a long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away nor is it in the 22nd/23rd/whatever century
Its now!!!
I'm crapping myself just by thinking about it!!
I WANT AN SG-1 FILM!!!!
Rock On
Thor
Neutrino_Albatross 11-23-02, 10:29 AM Thor,
SG-1 was based on a movie anyway. Which was very good by the way.
And SG-1 sucks now. It used to be one of my favorite shows but this last season was absolute crap. I hope they dont make another one because it will probaly be worse. But mabey if they cancel the show and wait a few years then try to do an SG-1 move then it would be good.
Noooo!! I thought the movie was terrible compared to the series. I love the series and watch it every chance I get, in fact, its on in a minute
CounslerCoffee 11-23-02, 12:04 PM Thor. Micahel Shanks (Daniel Jackson) will be coming back next season. Yes they are having another season! And Richard Dean Anderson is still starring in it despite rumors that he had left the show. This upcoming season will probably be better then the last one. I hate Corwin Nemic (Parker Lewis Cant Lose).
They better bring back farscape. Bastards!
Pollux V 11-23-02, 12:09 PM I never got into the Stargate universe. Farscape seemed so much better, and I don't doubt that it is. I'd rather have great scifi than mediocre scifi, because, well, if it's mediocre then it's not worth watching and getting involved with.
CounslerCoffee 11-23-02, 12:52 PM I agree pollux. Instead of paying for SG-1 scifi could of used it to make Farscape. Matter a fact they could of stopped production on The Tremors series... its just going to get cancelled anyways. Another thing they could have done was not buy the x-files series... if they handt of made those mistakes then farscape would be alive.
Thanks for the info Counsler, I knew he would be. He can deaccend (I know too much)
IMHO, Stargate is waaaaaay better than Farscape. I just watched the one called 'Cure'. Ok episode, woo!!
Bebelina 11-24-02, 05:39 AM I think what the audience really wants is a serie that brings up all the big existencial questions, nicely packaged in a easily digested form, although not too easy, the dilemma must still remain in their mind after the program has ended. Star trek was like that before, is trying to be that still, but fails. :(
Go into fantasy. Or one of the hundreds of less known series.
CounslerCoffee 11-26-02, 09:33 AM IMHO, Stargate is waaaaaay better than Farscape. I just watched the one called 'Cure'. Ok episode, woo!!
Thor where I come from dem are fighten words. But I also comes from a place with no runnin water, argh, what a tragic life I lead!
Jar Jar Binks was a man from Kentucky gone retarded.
Im from kentucky
Fighting talk it is :D
I suppose they could in a way both be similar as they are both set in the present day.
I shall gather my thoughts about it and start a thread about it soon
Stargate: SG-1 Vs Farscape
BE THERE
Pollux V 11-26-02, 01:49 PM I'll be there. I've been the only one starting threads here for awhile, except for airdog, but, eh....
Stargate isn't bad, but it's not realistic either. Star Trek has always been based in the future, a future that could very well happen. The central thing is Stargate SG-1 is the Stargate itself. A device found in Egypt that creates artificial wormholes. This isn't really a future (or world) that could really happen. What I mean is, we may have warp drive 300 years from now, and starships, but do you honestly think we'll find a Stargate buried in Egypt? This semi-realisticness is I think one of the things that has made Star Trek and Star Wars more successful than SG1 will ever be. And some of the stuff in SG1 makes no sense, like the episode where the other stargate is under water... the water would flow back into the stargate and be destroyed.
I'd like to see the Descent Freespace series turned into a movie. Although movies based on games almost always suck, this game has such a good storyline that I think it will make an awesome movie. And it's perfect for sequels too because FS2 leaves off with the biggest cliffhanger ever. You could easily have a trilogy there. FS1 is the first movie, FS2 the second, and the third movie continues where FS2 left off and finishes the story. The third movie will definatly attract at least everyone who's bought FS2.
Personally I don't like Farscape.
Xelios, no offence but did you actually watch it!! It was made by the ancients, an old and superior race!! The Gou'ald have "aquired" some of their tech and use them to rule the universe. It could happen, but thats just another conspiracy theory...that has no place in the Sci-Fi forum
Yeah I watched it, in fact I watch it whenever I can. I like the series, I'm just saying it didn't catch on like ST or SW did because the whole idea depends on finding a StarGate (which, unfortunatly, has a very good chance of not happening :p ).
It's funny, all this time I've been cheering every time Daniel was about to die, now he's finally dead (sort of). Now, this new guy makes me wish Daniel never died. Honestly, the new guy is terrible. =/
Yeah, that Jonas guy is a complete knob!!!
Daniel was always cool!!
Pollux V 11-28-02, 02:34 PM What's not to like about Farscape?:bugeye:
I dunno Pollux, just not my kind of show I guess =(
I wonder if they'll make any Star Trek movies based on Voyager... I hope not. Though if they do they should base it on Species 8472, 2 or 3 episodes is simply not enough for such cool aliens. They could have wiped out the Borg so easily, and fluidic space, c'mon, who didn't think that was cool? Not to mention the fact that we never got to see one of their capital ships (assuming they have em), or their real name.
I hadn't heard of SG-1 untill about 2 months ago, and now after a few 6 - 9 hour marathons over the course of 6 weeks I've seen every episode. I can say without a doubt that Stargate is the best sci-fi series out there, everything else pales in comparison. I like the way they have almost no latex based lifeforms appearing on the show, and when it comes to explaining the complex sci-fi mumbo-jumbo they just make Richard Dean Anderson tell Amanda Tapping to shut up.
By far my favorite show on the air, though this last series hasn't been as good as it could have been because of Michael Shanks' untimely demise, good thing he'll be coming back in the next series.
Yes!!
I love you DCLXVI *kisses*
The way it goes about things is great. One minute its all 'We're gonna die' then theres something funny. It is one of the best sci-fi shows of the 90's and early 21st century.
And what's more, its set in the present day, yet has elements from the past and the future. What's not to like?
Now to finish with my favourite quote....
"That's why we'd like to go back sir. Carter wants to get a closer look with her specialized do-hickeys."-Jack
"Do Hickeys?"-Hammond
"I believe that's the technical term sir."-Jack
Sorry :(
Hey this Nemesis looks good, if I haven't been a long time fan can I still enjoy it?
CounslerCoffee 11-30-02, 03:52 PM Yes! Species 8472 is just so awesome! They definantly need a movie about them. Id like to see a DS9 movie though.

Well, if SciFi channel would do that with Farscape then it wouldnt be canceled and you would be saying "Farscape is so awesome!"

Actually...if you go out and get Star Trek Armada 2 you get to have a pretty good look at their arsenal, at least from the programmer's perspective. The game is fairly mediocre, in fact, it tries to be mediocre, but playing as Species 8472 at least the first few times makes the whole thing a lot cooler. All the units have this really sweet voice, it's this guy that sounds like he's been pumped full of morphine. His voice is very calm, very noticeable though, and its very funny. The first time I played as them I was like "what the fuck??" You might be able to find it online if you look really hard....
Cory,
What was the last movie you saw in the series? What do you mean by "not a long time fan?"
The techie stuff in Farscape was pretty nonexistent, to say the least. The scifi concepts they dealt with were very, very imaginitive (the episode where they get trapped in 4 different universes, and also I mean jesus christ the whole concept) and extremely well acted, written, directed....everything. Farscape is the perfect scifi show.
Speaking of Farscape...counsler, what's the buzz going on with that little subject? Any news at all?

When I say "not a long time fan" I really mean "never was a fan".
Never got into it, too many movies and too obsessed with Star Wars.
As far as last movie I saw....I vaguely remember somebody putting a bug in someone's ear............would the new movie still be good or would I be lost.

I must be the resident scaper.:D
Well, I have a few links to some news about whats going on.
This one is about Taken, but mentions Farscape:
http://starburstcards.com/KarlswebNewscape/WSJ.htm
This is the one that YOU NEED TO READ:
http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,56550,00.html
That one is really impresive. Its the first time ever that this has been done by fans for a show.
Not only that but Foxtrot (http://www.foxtrot.com) made a comic about the save Farscape campaign.... I dont have the link and you have to be a member to see it now since its more then a month old. Its goes something like this though:
Jason (The young son): Hey dad. Will you sign my petition to stop scifi channel from canceling farscape?
The Dad: Whats farscape?
Jason: I knew I should have done this online...
The Dads: Theres a scifi channel!?!
LOL! It was so funny. But anyways, were making waves. We've gotten commercials on the air (even if they are on in the middle of the night). We've got T.V. Guides support (Matt Roush). Were making waves. And we will SAVE OUR SHOW!
*EDIT* Not to mention the very funny Farscape cancellation FAQ! It showed up on scifi channels website:
http://starburstcards.com/KarlswebNewscape/SaveFarscape/Cancellation%20FAQ.htm
Oh and heres a link to all the articles you could ever want:

"Actually...if you go out and get Star Trek Armada 2 you get to have a pretty good look at their arsenal, at least from the programmer's perspective"
Yeah I've played that. I must say I didn't like the game though, you just can't represent a 3D universe on a 2D battlefield. For example, there's an asteroid in my path, in space I could go under it, in A2 I have to go around it. 8472 and the Borg where the only species I ever played =)
Well, if SciFi channel would do that with Farscape then it wouldnt be canceled and you would be saying "Farscape is so awesome!"
They did that on the UK Sci-Fi Channel. I watched it, but it didn't change my view on the show. I still think it's good, but not as good as *drool* Stargate *sigh*
Indeed, V, the sex scene in Nemesis preview, and the blatantly stupid "evil force versus good" thing just about made me puke. What the ^&$#%# is going on with a perfectly good series? They've messed it up!

But zero, what other kind of movie can you make if not for good vs evil? Doesn't every movie (at least every sci fi) have some element of good vs evil in it?
Pollux V 12-02-02, 06:50 AM When it comes to a scifi movie, if the sex adds to the plot, makes the villain more evil or more interesting, then go for it. I think that it would be necessary and even possibly add to the plot.
I guess we'll all just have to find out. The movie comes out next friday I believe...
Still sounds like it'll be a let down
I'll go and see Deathwatch instead
Pi? Cube? Brilliant ones like those...
