It's that time of year again. It's been a while since our last changes to the forum structure, and so it's worth taking ideas for some more diversified forums.

Pollux V suggested a Media, Power & Politics forum. kmguru suggested an Economy & Business forum.

Free Thoughts might also be split up into two forums, one for general chat of a social nature, and one for serious intellectual discussion (matching the tone of the rest of the site) of topics that don't fit in other forums.

Are there any other suggestions?

Yeah, don't split the Free Thoughts Forum up. It's easier just leaving it that way, in my opinion.

As for a new forum.......I would say athletics, but that might down play the intellect of this site.........maybe one devoted to Ancient Studies or Prehistoric?

and I do not support economics. I have enough of it in daily commercials:D(don't watch commercial channels any more), but to be serious I htink tht it would distance us from the main theme->SCIENCE. We should improve sciforums not spoil thm.

I second the Media Politics Power forum. Actually if you created I was wondering if I could moderate. I don't know if Free thoughts need to be split, kinda interesting to see oddball and serious dissucssions co-existing.

So Porfiry, could you tell us what's going on with the Media Politics and Power Forum? I'm not pressuring you or anything I'd just like to hear your opinion on making one or not. Cactus and 'Oeddie' along with me seem to want to be the moderator(s), is it possible to have three? We're all knowledgable in the field, even if oeddie didnt take the class....:P

That way everybody can hide behind their Mask of an avatar, and suggest what they would look for out there in the real world. (although I'm sure psychologists would be looking for sociopathic tendencies as people morph to the roles of those that they admire.)

If you're in need of a moderator I'd do it.

I believe I said something to the effect of 'I'm so cool my friends have to wear a light jacket when they hang out around me, even if it's summertime and we're at the beach.'

How about a forum dedicated to space missions, space craft, space tourism, which would include airborne crafts like jets, X-prize associated crafts, NASA, JPL, etc...

Open a Nanotechnology Forum. The subject spans many areas of science and should IMO have a dedicated Forum.

No. That would only include vehicles able to cruise within the atmosphere. It should encompass everything from jets to space shuttles to space stations to Dyson spheres. Basically, anything that is not "nailed down" can be contained within this forum. I'm not sure if it should include Sci-Fi type vehicles like the Millennium Falcon, for example.

Doesnt really matter to me if you split up the free ideas forum.

Love and Romance - Dont think its a very good idea, but it seems to me that there is alot of people who talk about the 2 in here.

How about a Health/Fitness section? Health is a really good and useful subject, Im sure people would use it. (I know I would) - plus it might promote more a healthier living for people who sit on the internet all day! :D

Also, If your trying to save space, you should purge any members who have to been inactive in say a year or so, maybe six months.

Okay so the main reason why I've just thought of it, is because I now realise that I probably have TB and could well be quarantined away from everyone for months.

I would like to be a moderator for the history forum. It's my favourite subject @ school and I take everything I can get about it.

I support you, avatar, go for it. I haven't taken much in school for history really because that's not what the freshmen classes were geared for but I'm in the Honors World Studies class next year, maybe that'll be worthwhile. I've been forced to watch History International and the Discovery Channel (great Blunders in History is one of the coolest frickin shows on tv I tell ya).

I am also so unbelievably intrigued by WW2 that I find myself thinking about it maybe every ten minutes. Christ what a classic....

But then, ancient history is also fun, there's the 120 million year old relief map, the egyptians and their colossal pyramids, the romans and their pedophile emperors (Tiberius).

Free thoughts don't need to be moderated. They would stop to be FREE thoughts then. Anything is good in there.

Of course I would step forward and volunteer, like Tyler, based on my track record of *ahem* revitalizing the scifi forum, or at least building it up from what it was. But I don't think we need a power struggle here, I already have a forum that I'm really happy with and that I'm very active with. Ah I'm just such a good example of a moderator, it's just killing me....:D :D :D :p

free thoughts don't need to be moderated I know, but there should be someone who at least is sort of the king or queen of that little realm. I'm not saying it needs a moderator moderator, it just needs a ruler, governor, what have you.

Or maybe a grand visier, a sultan of science, or my old title, Praetor Ex Scientia, which I believe means 'Supreme Judge of the Science' in latin, although it's possible that I'm incorrect (a rare thing mind you :D)

I think most of the suggestions here are already covered in the descriptions of other forums. However, a History forum I think would be a great addition, it's such a large and interesting field and has not yet made its presence known much at Sciforums.

I think a 'sports' forum would be absolutly nifty, even if we do get some extra morons.

Actually I postponed it for a couple of days to see what panned out. I think it was more likely to be a viral infection, had me worried though.

Okay this might be a thread on the topic of new forums, but to think that Doctors originated preportionally from Hippocrates (Yes there all Hypocritally telling you the wrong prognosis and then retracting that prognosis when it's proven to be wrong), not to forget.... Druids, priests, witches and witch doctors.

In fact it's known that the first Dentists were actually Butchers by trade.

I'm sure something could be started on the history of doctors.

Glad to hear you're alright. Right now I have this mole on my left hand, on the left side of my right middle finger. Although it is extremely unlikely that it's cancerous I can sort of predict that unless removed it will be my demise. It's kind of cool :D, gives me this feeling of 'living on the edge (not altogether too common at the northeast tip of the US).'

How about a 'Dismissed' section. For all those threads you want to close, you can put them in this section so that people who want to bicker can bicker without taking up other people's space.

I think we should have a flame forum. There seems to be a bit feather ruffling going on from time to time. At present it seems to spread out across the board. Slowly enlarging till it is all across the site.

That way those who have a grudge to settle can go there and leave the topic alone. Say maybe it takes 3 or 4 people or a moderator to suggest that it be taken to the flame forum. I am kind of fuzzy on how to make a workable scenerio. So any ideas from the community? Porfiry?

The bbc thinks a scrapping forum is a good idea :D

Personally I'd really like porfiry to comment on everything we've said here.
