I am more than certain this has been done somewhere on the forum but it really fascinates me. So, here goes.

What do you feel the next real quantum leap in technology will be? I am not talking about stuff like "well, instead of this type of processor, we will have this type of processor" or "we will now longer have CDs, we will download all our tunes"

I am talking about something on the level of what the Apple/PC did for us all.

What technology could possibly be that revolutionary as to parallel the personally applied computer?

the ability to link artificial intelligence directly into the human brain.
star trek type replicators. amazingly this second one might occur before the former.

combining these two breakthroughs we are presented with such amazing things such as converting your thoughts directly into reality.

Well PDAs are getting to the point where PCs will be obsolete for the Joe Blow user that only uses PCs for communication/information- internet, e-mail(messaging, etc), even for presentations.

That is happening now, but I think equivalent and a parallel advancement to computers coming out of the 2nd floor of company building and onto people's desktops.

As for the next advancement - voluntary RFID - tied to getting a "good" job, "free" passage abroad, accessing "your" technology(be it in your pocket, on your lap, or on your desk.).

This will come after a security Y2k-like "event" (a real global breakdown of systems caused by "poor" security). Probably caused by the makers of RFID and the people who want it implemented.

After a few years of THAT, you will need one to operate commercially in the west on any level. Access your bank, collect a government cheque, fuck a prostitute...
