Just like you say "Hi" and "Bye" (conventionally) every time you meet, a use of "Peace be unto you" can be used in a similar manner. Not all cultures have "Hi" and "Bye" some use words that have other meaning. They may be derived from religion but that doesn't change the fact that it can become part of culture and tradition so the use must be understood in the context, not simply the religious context.

The typical Muslim reference of a dead is "Peace be upon him"
The typical Jewish reference of a dead is "Of righteous memory"
I don't know if the Christians have one.

The difference is when it's said. The Hebrew isn't usually said at the end of a conversation in my experience. Instead you usually hear "b'hetlakha' which really means "With good favor."

Also the Muslims and Christians are in general more obsessed with peace than their Jewish counterparts. Which makes some sense in an ironic way.
Jesus of nazareth spoke of peace, or at least his authors did, his words were given to both Muslims and Christians. Mohammed made a case for arguing that there are times when war is necessary. Both of which have been historically violent compared to Jews.
Jewish texts are full of wars, there's a few wars in the Torah alone. More in the texts that follow, and there's even a case where they're told they are eternally at war with a certain tribe.

In general there's a passage from Jeremiah that discusses the issue of peace in a very intelligent tone;

10 Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that shall possess them; for from the least even unto the greatest every one is greedy for gain, from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
11 And they have healed the hurt of the daughter of My people lightly, saying: 'Peace, peace', when there is no peace.

Christians have the message of peace from Jesus. Well true ones do. false ones follow the traditions of men. islam's does not follow the teachings of peace given by Jesus, they follow the teachings of jihad given by muhammad. Well the true ones do.

The jews for the most part over the last 2000 years have lived as minorities in nations that have for the most part restricted their participation in war activities. Now that the jews have their own homeland they are armed to the teeth and have willingly taken part in war on several occasions during the last 50 years. It would not be an exaggeration to say per person the modern state of isreal is the most armed state in the world. So much for your contention that jews are somehow more peaceful. As soon as they have gained control of their own land they have shown themselves to be very adept in the ways of war.

Obviously his signature has been taken out of context. So now with the world watching he can confirm the peaceful intent of his musings. Isn`t this what the teachings of his faith would want him to do..... make peace and understanding?

Shalom Aleichem – "Peace be upon you" - is the original Jewish saying, and adopted by Muslims as their greeting.

"Peace be unto you" appears to be a Christian version of Shalom Aleichem. Christianity had an early habit of twisting most things Jewish, e.g. making the first day of the week the Sabbath instead of the 7th, etc.

In England they have "how do you do" as a greeting. A somewhat quaint phrase that we could re-phrase in modern terms as "how're doing", or "how ya doin?

In the USA the greeting tends to be "how are you?". When I first visited the US in the 1980s my first response was to tell the greeter how I was, this simply caused blank looks if one says anything other than, I'm fine thanks, how are you, etc.

Greetings and good-byes (curiously goodbye comed from God be with you), generally don't mean much other than ice-breakers, or politeness. But in verbal encounters with the appropriate tone of voice, both these apprantly friendly gestures can esily be turned into hatred.

So we really don't know whether our numbered member here uses the signature out of politeness and sincerity or sarcastic hatred, especially since it is followed by a wink. Emotionally, I find the signature very irritating, almost as bad as LG's infuriating avatar.

There is a difference between telling people their reasoning is wrong (which may feel insulting) with logical reasoning to explain your position and purposefully creating a post that is to inflame a group of people.

There was a thread & attached video about a year or so ago about an arranged discussion held between atheists and theists. The audience as well as the moderator were of the Muslim faith. All I can remember from it was that the moderator after awhile, began to take on a very aggressive tone, becoming quite irate at the atheist speaker(s).

And now this tirade. Yow!
