Fluid1959 has been started several threads all on the same topic about structures/rocks on mars. They all contain mostly the same links. He has cross-posted them between General Science, Pseudoscience, and Science&Society.

Fluid has also started several two threads about structures on Mercury... both with the same exact first post.
http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=31190
http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=31186

A discussion is almost impossible to be had, because the content is in 10 different places. On top of this, he has been extremely rude to anybody questioning his theory and seems only to want to post... not discuss. To top it all off, he started deleting/editing his posts which make reading the threads even more difficult.

So, I move to ban fluid1959 for:
Cross-posting & spamming
Posting with no intent to discuss
Deleting his posts when questioned

Thank you.

I think porfiry should make it a law that only mods or him can make ban polls, at this rate everyone is going to try to ban everyone!

Dam it what have I done now someone going to try to ban me!

but now that you raise the question on baning Fluid1959:

"Fuck the Fucking Fucker!"
as spooking in Monty Python's classic public service announcement

I think this is a pretty clear cut case. There are several others on this forum that I just don't think are useful (MacM), but simply disliking/disagreeing isn't enough to create a ban poll... IMO.

I trust Porfiry to make sure this doesn't become a popularity contest. Even so, the last word is always his... so the worst that will happen is that SF/OG is closed if it becomes a farce. I just hope that members don't abuse this forum.

I will officially ask this question here, as it goes well with Well Cooked Fetus' point about everybody trying to ban everybody.

I've been here for four years under this handle. When I look at a poster like Undecided, and now in the case of Fluid1959, I'm wondering:

•*Is there a time limit on ban proposals?

Or do these topics haunt posters for the rest of their time here? In two years, as the vote creeps to 49 - 49 on any one of these ban proposals, how long to wait for the last two votes?

This issue does fall squarely, in lieu of any time limit, into Porfiry's jurisdiction. I mean, if I were to vote to ban Undecided, and stop posting next month, would my vote still count two years down the line?

Also, in light of the nature of the current topic, I wanted to ask a second question:

• Is SFOG where standard complaints about harassment, cross-posting, and spamming are to go, or is there a more direct method? Looking at my screen, I don't see the old, "Report post" button.

Porfiry did request that an appropriate time limit be set on these polls, hence the 2 week closure date on this one.

Edit:
Ok, here's porfiry's line...
- Set the time frame of the poll long enough such that quorum (minimum number of votes) can be met. (suggested time period: 1 week)

Ah, duh. Silly me. I looked right past that.

Sorry to say but this is becoming frightening. While I think that the notion of a ban poll is a good idea, the thought that it could escalate to the point that each time we have a disagreement with someone that we could end up being banned... well it has with it the possibility that it could be blown way out of proportion .

I'm now waiting for my ban poll lol... the way things are going, it probably wont be long in coming ... heh

Some of Fluids threads should be move, and edited, and deleted, but he should not be banned - that's just taking it to far.

I agree.
Being annoying is not grounds for banning someone.
If it were, this place would be pretty desolate.

I agree. Innocent cross-posting isn't a serious crime.
