Rumours are flying about in Russia that Roman Abramovich, multibillionaire and owner of fantasy football team Chelsea FC, has bought the world's largest drill.
He may be planning to dig through the 60 odd miles of suboceanic rock which separates Alaska from Siberia, thus connecting the opposite shores of the Bering straits with a tunnel.

That means it will also go through some of the most active fault areas in the world!
I hope this will not be built
Perhaps, by the time, it is finished, we will have an Ice Age and just drive on the land.....

One good earthquake on that fault line would cave it in. Better to build a suspension tunnel underwater held in place by cables suspended in the water.

Do you build an underground tunnel? Or dig it?

You'll need "New Road Construction" signs.
Otherwise Whales might bump into it.

Actually whales and other types of aquatic life will know its there because they use sonar to echo locate what's in front of them in order to avoid hitting it.

I doubt there's even enough population in that area to warrant a connection. How much freight really goes through that area when the closest cites are hundreds of miles away?

Roads are strange things.
When you build one, the traffic usually follows
and eventually you need a bigger one.
