View Full Version : Sesame Street
Lesion42 12-02-02, 06:07 PM I can't help but notice when my little sister watches sesame street, that all of my old favorite characters are gone! Where has wolfgang the seal, Amazing Mumphord the clutzy magician, and Biff and Sully the construction workers? The honkers and dingers have all but disapeared as well! When will the madness stop! Anyhoo, is there any character that still remains vivid in your minds from the days of childhood? All I can say is that Wolfgang was the coolest!:D
Is Burt and Ernie still there...you know, the gay ones?
grazzhoppa 12-02-02, 06:49 PM Your looking at him in my avatar....the fox in Robin Hood. Although he doesn't dress in drag all the time...he's just stealing the king's jewels in a disguise!
Although my favorite character is Sir Hiss from the same movie.
Lesion42 12-02-02, 07:19 PM So that's what it is. I was wondering.
Lesion, please answer my question..please!!!
Lesion42 12-03-02, 02:34 PM Yes, Thor, Ernie and Bert are still there. But I think they're more like the Odd Couple rather than gay. People didn't think of including stuff like that in kids shows back when they started. In fact is was frowned upon. Unlike the Telletubbies of today.
notme2000 12-03-02, 05:48 PM I used to love the talking portrait of an owl on Mr Dressup, but he'd hardly ever wake up :(
Sadly many of them died of AIDS
Vortexx 12-04-02, 04:28 PM Others have found they can make more money elsewhere:

UberDragon 12-04-02, 05:28 PM I remember my brother and I had a He-Man obsession when we were little, then it went away. Now it's back but it totally sucks ass!!
CounslerCoffee 12-04-02, 09:48 PM Yes, Thor, Ernie and Bert are still there. But I think they're more like the Odd Couple rather than gay. People didn't think of including stuff like that in kids shows back when they started. In fact is was frowned upon. Unlike the Telletubbies of today.
The Odd Couple guys arent gay!? When did this happen!?!
No really. Shows change with time. Many people die and move on, or the other way around. :bugeye:
As long as they have the classics, ie cookie monster, the count, and that bird thats really big and yellow. It will still be the same show.
Oscar the Grouch was my favorite.
notme2000 12-04-02, 11:58 PM Did you guys know in some third world countries there's a sesame street character with aids. They decided not to use him in the north american version.
CounslerCoffee 12-05-02, 12:03 AM Notme2000,
Yeah I knew. I dont have kids but I would not let mine watch Sesame Street if it did have a character with aids on the show.
As soon as the kids ask "Coffee, whats aids?" Id have to explain to a 5, 6, or 7 year old what sex is and why these types of things happen. Im waiting until my kids are 12 or 13 before I tell them about these things. They would understand more and wouldnt freak out.

notme2000 12-05-02, 12:10 AM If I had kids I'd probably wait till about 9 or 10. By 13 (concidering this would be AT LEAST 13 years in the future) they may already be having sex, and are definately feeling the presure... I wouldn't explain everything in one big discussion. I'd keep the lines of communication with my kids open, answer any questions, and bring up newer and riskier topics as they got older...
UberDragon 12-06-02, 07:38 PM like the Dirty Sanchez and the Donkey Punch??
notme2000 12-06-02, 11:07 PM LMAO, no I'll leave THAT to Sesame street.
AshenLee 12-07-02, 02:04 PM Elmo kicks ass!:D
Nova1021 12-09-02, 10:54 AM Speaking of the AIDS character, look at this, REALLY funny: Why Stop With A Muppet With AIDS? (http://maddox.xmission.com/muppet.html)
UberDragon 12-09-02, 10:56 AM That Maddox guy is hilarious!! Did you read the Kids' art review??:D :D
On Radioactive Waves 12-18-02, 10:16 PM I think the new street sucks. What creativity is gone, they try substituting with fancy computer graphics.
Elmos World is crap
