How tall are you now? You could always just put on high heel shoes to gain a few extra inches. Growth hormones are also out there and can increase height but you are taking a chance with using them.

Why can't you enjoy who you are as you are?

No, I wouldn't do that. I think you should be whatever you want to be. The growth hormones would be worth looking into if you really want to gain more altitude.

I doubt my doctor is gonna prescribe human growth hormone to a modestly tall 20 year old for vanity reasons. :(

You can get the stuff over the internet, but I'd be wary of shooting that up. If you overdose you can really fuck yourself up. Deformed facial bones, insulin resistance and worse.

Work on your posture. Minimizing the curvature in your spine will make you slightly taller. Otherwise, at twenty you are a "fully grown adult" and I doubt that more than a tiny fraction of the population continue increasing in height at this age. You might manage a couple of millimeters.

I'm sorry you're not happy with your body the way it is, and I hope you manage to make peace with it. Life can be very hard for people who are dissatisfied with their appearance, and it would be very sad if you go through life that way. Especially if other people think you're just fine, or even good-looking, and it's only your own opinion.

I'm already hypermobile, and my posture is fine.

I think I'm probably just one of the people at the far end of the bell curve, as it were, who continue growing after 20. It's rare but not nonexistent. People have had growth spurts as late as 21.

My height growth officially stopped at 25.

No matter what I do or what I eat, I can't seem to grow outwards, either.

Initially, CERN contacted me about studying the mini black holes contained within my stomach.
But the money they offered wasn't good enough.

So I told 'em to up it or shove it.

So they went and built a nice and big collider but messed it up and I bet now they are wishing they had upped it.

I personally think that everyone is sexy in their own ways. And the vast majority of people see themselves as sexy. Though, some people can disagree with a person saying someone is sexy, its all up to that one person. Everyone finds different things sexy! -I know I am just randomly burbling out things to avoid writing my college papers-

examples:
Some people think Lori is sexy because shes got a bunch of mini-skirts. Because shes blond.
some people think I am because of my eyes, and some people think I am ugly because I may not write well, or because I pluck my eye brows, and I wear makeup...
VI, you are just awesome so that makes you sexy to me! haha

You're already quite tall. You should move to a place where the average height is low so that way you can feel like a giant. That's how I feel when I walk around a part of town that is full of little old Mexican ladies. They're all about 5ft on a good day.
I'm 21 and my breasts and hips have grown, but I haven't gotten any taller since I was about 18. Of course there are surgeries for elongating legs and spines. I however don't think it's worth it.

If you are 20 it is probably too late, but swim a lot. Look at pro swimmers, NONE of them are short, and they started to swim at a young age, when their size was unpredictable. Spending hours in water when there is no weight on your spine during adolescence helps to grow taller.

At least this is my theory, but I think it is true. Unless someone shows me a small pro swimmer...

Stretching is one of the best grow taller exercises around. This is because stretching causes the body to produce human growth hormones called EIGs (exercise induced growth hormones). EIGs result from catecholamines, acid-base balance, nitric oxide, and lactate. Nitric oxide and lactate especially increase height. Human growth hormones harden cartilage, strengthen bones and make you grow taller.

Yanno what's scary? you lose height as you age...which annoys the crap out of me.
I used to be 5'10". I'm just a hair under 5'9" now in my *ahem* late 30's! grr!

But I think I did it through squashing a disc. There's almost no space between two of the lumbar vertebrae on an x-ray that was taken when I last really threw my lower back out.
So if you don't do fun things like total out cars, get rearended on bicycles, and get thrown by horses, you may retain more height.

V_I- if you can't run in heels you probably heelstrike when you run.You might try running barefoot on (clean) pavement in order to learn the correct running foot. You should land on the ball of the foot and the heel either doesn't touch the pavement at all, or plops gently down.

Not that you should run in heels. The front end of pretty shoes are just as bad as the back. You can't spread your toes at all.
I'd also suggest taking a jog around the store in the shoes before you buy them. Maybe you can find a wedge heel that wouldn't compromise footing and comfort.

Or a pair of goth creeper shoes-flat platforms.

When I started secondary school I was one of the shortest in my class. From 11-18, my diet was very bad. I hardly ate fruit and veg, maybe the odd glass of milk. For maybe 5 years I skipped lunch as I used to play football during break. But I started growing quite rapidly, didn't realise it myself. But I grew to 6ft, and ended up taller than most of my school mates. I have stretch marks on my knees, chest/shoulder and on my back too.

My younger brother prob had a worse diet than me, and he didn't even play sports - he is around 6ft 2.

There are many 'grow taller' sites - e.g. exercise to stretch spine take optimum nutrients - are these 'believable' ??

What are pros/cons of using HGH to increase height?

yes and tell your self to grow . Look in the mirror and tell your self to grow . You would be surprised at how you are the boss of your self . Swimming sounds like a good Idea also like S.A.M. said . I got know Idea if there truth in that but if you believe it your body may respond to the belief . Worth a try I would say and good for strength training too . Good exercise with out pounding your spine smaller like running does.

My one step brother was a little guy and the doctors looked him over cause they family was starting to think he was going to be short and he needed to get use to the idea that that was it . Well low and behold the doctor said he was one of the few that not grow until later in life and could keep growing into his 20s. At 18 he was still a little guy . He grew up to about 25/26 and ended up at just under 6'. For us it was like " Can you believe that Doctor was right ? He was . Growth plates is how they tell and you might consider a doctor looking over your growth plates. I would not until you do mirror thing and tell your self to grow with conviction . Will your self to grow like a flower searching for the sun . Your the boss of you. Use it, boss your self . Wow I had no idea you were a tall girl . Oh wow aYeah . Sorry likey likey . Sorry . Ah yes, but you can be strong or weak. Being strong and fit can help you live a fuller, healthier life regardless of what you may choose to do. :)

Its true, it always helps your body's durability.

I am always prepared to upgrade my durability when I level up. :o

For the first part of your life you can build yourself up if you try. After a certain point it becomes very much more difficult to do that and you begin to maintain the gains you previously won - if you continue your efforts - rather than improve.

It is my perception that you then enter a long slow slide as you age. Folks like LaLane fight the good fight and go down swinging at a ripe old age, still relatively healthy right up to the end when something takes them out all of a sudden - whack!

Others (like my mom) crap out early and end up sitting in a wheel chair on a couple dozen meds for a decade before they check out, due to not making any effort to be as much as they can be.

Can't be avoided, but can be dealt with. :)

So after 40 or so, no more gaining strength for me? Yuck...

Strength not only develops in the muscles but also in your mind so always keep learning and you will always keep getting stronger. A strong body can move a wheelbarrow but a strong mind can move a mountain.

A strong mind can also mean a stronger body.

You have to be mentally strong, you have to "play until the whistle blows" and also give it 110% percent in your workouts. Keep on pushing until you have no more left in you and then some.

I agree, good sir. :)

You can gain muscle tissue into your 90's, but it takes an ever - increasing amount of effort to do so - more work for less result. Most of us don't put out the extra effort as we go along, so we slide.

There is much to be gained from dedicating yourself to developing and keeping a healthy lifestyle, however. You reduce your chances of developing a bunch of nasty, age - related stuff including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, heart attack, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer. You also avoid that long wasting - away decrepitude that many seniors end up in...."stumble in the gloom of the sick room, and talk to yourself 'till you die.."

Again - I have had the great pleasure of knowing many persons who attained ages in the 90's and were still fit, relatively healthy and strong. This due to their dedicated daily workouts and healthy lifestyle choices. This is motivation for me to get in a few hours of serious exercise every day, to watch my diet, stay flexible and get sufficient rest. I look and move maybe 10 - 15 years younger than my age as a direct result. :)

Normal people can, maybe. I can't. Literally.

People are always commenting that they think I have too much testosterone, but I actually wonder if it isn't LOW even for a woman. I don't have a scraping of muscle on me. None.

Hey! I know this is coming 2 years late but I just wanted to say that I'm turning 22 next month (female) and I've grown to be 5,8 from the time i was 5,7 when I was 20 so I was wondering if it ended up working out for you! For all those who thought, no it's not possible, I guess you can't generalize all the time:) Hope it worked out!

Welcome to the Sciforums, Norajanson. I hope that you enjoy your time here with us. :)

Some sources claim that we do not actually end puberty and the associated major physical & psychological changes until we are in our mid - twenties. My personal experience supports that, though that is anecdotal.

Measuring your height in the morning will give a different figure by late afternoon, this is down to gravity's effect on the body and how compression occurs over time. So you could ask yourself whether you measured yourself at the same time of day or not.
