I am sure that everyone wants to be a hacker here. I am also sure that many of you tried trojan and those kind of things and felt like a hacker. Do you guys know any good web-sites to learn more about this art? I am not looking for web sites that give me specific codes to destroy certain things. I want to know more about how those codes are written. I also want to know what is legal and what is illegal in the USA. For example is it illegal to get someone else's hotmail password or using a trojan on someone?

So you want to become a script kiddie, eh? As if there aren't enough of them out there already...

Oh well...

bugtraq is really all you need... My advice? Learn PHP and the like to get the feel for how they work, just experiment. Get familiar with unix and it's various tools, if you aren't already. Want more help? Seek out irc communities, but secure your box before you do.

Ok I will give you the great start into the world you wish to enter but BUT BUT, just know that I wish the HELLFIRE TO REIGN DOWN on all EVIL hackers out there. Hacking is not a crime, unless you INTEND to break the law.

I hope that you are a good soul and here is a good starting place:

Its gonna suck like usual but read ALL of the tutorials, they will get you rolling and hopefully lead you down the White Collar Hacker.

Trust me the white collar is the road to go, not only keeps you clear of JAIL PRISION FINES etc, but can lead to a NICE paying job.

Best of luck on the positive side !

Not all hackers think about destroying things. Destroying is always easy but building something is more difficult. Thanks for the sources.

Cyberarmy isn't bad. Has a nice wargame, but the site goes down often.
No comment on Antionline. Didn't JP sell the domain? What happened with that?

If you want to be a hacker, learn to think like one. Learn to program, and in general just learn how everything works. Learn as much as you can.
Get the tools, learn how they work (This step is important. Using them doesn't make you a hacker, it makes you a user, or script kiddie. You have to learn how they work.) and make your own.

The only way to become a hacker is to read everything to do with computers, there is no short and easy route or program that you can download that gives you instant hacking ability. Its amasing how many people think that it is true that you can download one program and start hacking straight away - i.e. script kiddies.
Anyone can use a trojan, most isps put a trojan type program on your computer that monitors net use i.e. AOL and Tiscali, a misconception that only hackers use trojans.
Also, i believe the correct term for a person that hacks programs is a hacker and the person who cracks websites is called a cracker.

True that CC....... I will tell a little story and it aint about Ed(NM joke)

I used to be a phreaker back in 1990+

Now if you want to be a hacker, try being a phreaker first IMO it will be easier and get you a little educated. Besides its fun to fuck with phones :) Just dont get caught, run like hell if you are field phreaking, and always deny everything ;)

haha...

phreaking always sounded like fun. like making your own boxes and going in someones backyard, switching their wires around and recording everything they say on the phone? woot!

Actually destruction of subsystems was originally a last resort by good security specialists, to hide their tracks, in fact their credibility tended to drop if they had to destroy a system to mask that they had accessed it.

Destroying systems was really left with the people that didn't know what the hell they were doing, and were instances away from getting caught, and of course the anarchists that just like causing a rukus.

True attacks require knowledge of systems structures, and some programming languages to develop tools.

Afterall you wouldn't see someone pick a lock without the write tools, and even with the right tools they would still need to know the theory/philosophy of how the lock works.

The use of trojans has become "Cheap and dirty", removing the old methods of painstakingly setting up multiple systems to crunch code to just being sneaky enough to get someone to trigger your trojan. (Which can be like the preverbial mouse and cheese, or in some cases a donkey with a carrot on a string.)

If anyone truly wanted to take pride in skills, then obviously they wouldn't touch a trojan because it's just too damn easy.

The other question hear is "Why would anyone want to be a hacker?", there are many different crossreferencable sayings that can be placed here, one of which I won't say for the delicate forum members, however are you going to stand in the middle of the street and scream at the top of your lungs what ever you have done wrong in your life (and could be arrest for?)

True hackers, wouldn't admit they were hackers.
