View Full Version : Spinning
superstring01 03-19-10, 10:56 AM Holy Moly, I joined a new spinning class (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indoor_cycling) this past week to begin prepping for my summer biking schedule.
I don't ever remember this activity being so hard (though, I will admit, my last class was at a different gym).
If you want a good work out and one that's highly enjoyable, seriosly consider spinning.
Note: another good alternative is one called "Iron Body (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_body_training)". I'm starting to get into the classes more than my individual work out. The time flies by and I generally push myself harder for fear of looking like a total wuss.

Both are great. Iron Body is especially awesome. I am adding massive ab work since I will be wearing a bathing suit in 12 days.:D

Steve100 03-30-10, 01:29 PM Spinning in the RAF is no fun at all. After about 10 minutes I struggle to walk, they really beast us.
Circuits are the way forward, did a brilliant one yesterday, probably the hardest session I've ever done.
CutsieMarie89 03-30-10, 01:32 PM I hate spinning, but then I also hate biking.
cosmictraveler 03-30-10, 05:21 PM I do not understand why everyone gets so worked up about using a spinning wheel, it isn't that hard to do and you really do not break a sweat!

Repo Man 03-30-10, 08:52 PM I ride rollers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiCdm5FsJpg) when I have to get an indoor workout. Though I'm not as good at it as the guy in the linked video.

What would happen if you set those rollers on a 45 degree angle downward? Would you just coast indefinitely?
I just ate..please:puke:
:D Ok. Enough. This is string's thread about spinning. Let's not hijack it, huh?
I'm doing the "Iron Body" he mentioned in the OP. It's hard but the results are awesome.

Tomorrow night! I have my third class.
I've been a soloist for about two years now (two days of resistance and two days of cardio), and I've not budged from where I am in the last year. Being 35 (6" 195lbs), I'm well aware that my body can be my own worst enemy (long hours at work, tempting junk food, the allure of a television or good book), but I'm determined to lose the last vestige of my "daddy belly" and be back at my fighting weight. No vanity purpose: I'll drag my fat ass out to the rivers with, or without, the fat. I just happen to have a parent (my "biological father", who I never knew) who died at 39 of heart disease. He was fat, and way over weight (like 300+lbs and about 5'11"). My mother started gaining weight in her thirties before she died (auto accident), so I have so poor genes. Both of my bio-siblings (I have many others as well) are massively over weight (my 5'5" sister weighs over 300lbs, my older brother weighs almost as much) and I'll fight till the day I die to have a healthy body mass.

PieAreSquared 03-31-10, 01:05 PM best of luck to you string..guess I'm one of the lucky ones.. don't have to fight that battle
Bebelina 03-31-10, 03:00 PM If I was rich I would attend spinning classes too and get an iron body, but now I'm poor and all that is spinning is my head from all the candy I have been eating while my soft body is firmly placed on the couch watching Resident Evil.
siledre 03-31-10, 06:52 PM lol, I always had this image of spinning class being a bunch of people spinning around a room and falling down frequently, I didn't know it meant cycling.
Bebelina 04-01-10, 05:37 AM That IS fun too!

These are the hippy girls (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNMZr5X8FrI) at reggae and Phish concerts.

If you had the rollers on a down slope, the only result would be that it would be nearly impossible to ride them. The two rollers in the rear keep the bike in place. On a down slope, gravity would be pulling the bike forward, making it easier to roll off the rollers and fall over. But on level ground, or an angle, the only power to the wheels is provided by the rider. Stop pedaling, and the wheels quickly slow to a stop. As they slow, you'd better be ready to grab something to steady yourself with, because the gyroscopic effect of the spinning wheels is the only thing keeping you upright.
