Farmers decorate square-shaped watermelons with ribbons before shipping them to an agricultural cooperative in Zentsuji, western Japan, on Monday June 17, 2002.

The watermelons, developed to save space in refrigerators, are priced at a whopping 10,000 yen (US$80) each. Some 450 to 500 watermelons will be sent to department stores and other places in Tokyo and Osaka - for display rather than eating.

Yes, UltiTruth, the cube melons are not genetically altered or anything -- they're just normal watermelons whose growth was restrained with boxes. An expensive and pointless novelty.

Ok so they aren't GM fruit. I didn't know melons could be shaped like that. I should have guessed since bonzai trees are shaped the same way with wire wrapped around their branches.

Well, they already have bald GM chickens in Israel without feathers, apparently they are more suited for production in countries with hot climate....

A few steps furher would be to cut the legs and wings out of the genepool (that's considered useless calcium buildup and waste of energy / food that could be directed at creating a more meatier body)

As chickens heads are chopped off (only in some countries like france they eat the head, or make soup from it), why not create/select a race with short necks, wiothout eyes aers and no larynx.....

dosnt KFC already have some sort of geneticly altered chicken- somthing with 9 breasts or likewise. i never found out exectly what it was...... nor do I eat KFC

ya, i guess thats what i heard was somthing like that. that reminds me of a story circulating around about 6 years ago when i worked at McDonalds ( and yes they really do put the icky in mickey D's)

anyhow, i've heard the story recently and it goes something like this. Jon Doe was eating chicken from (insert fastfood chain here) and he bit into a blister in the chicken, like a grizzle filled with puss. long story short he had it anylized and it was some form of cancer.

the story is made up to disgust you, but probably not far from the truth. years after i worked for ronald, when i heard the story again i laughed. i knew how the story went and finished up for the fastfood worker.

well the good thing about working at McD's is that i was horrified of fast food, and to this day it would be very rare that you caught me eating it. now a hole in the wall mexican joint- thats another story. if you want the good stuff, you ask them for what the employees are eating in the back
