The first total eclipse of the millennium occurred yesterday over South Africa. Reportedly it was perfect weather for viewing and the Internet was swamped with feeds rebroadcasting the event. In the inset picture of the corona you can see Jupiter in the lower left. This picture comes from APOD.

I was in Cornwall last year for the Aug 11 eclipse. What a disappointment, a huge thick black cloud deposited itself over my head for the duration! It went very dark indeed, then lightened after 2 minutes!
Yes it is sad that weather has always influnced the observing of celestial events.
I think it was Carly Simon who had the song that said something to the effect of "You flew to Nova Socia (?) to watch a total eclipse of the sun". And if the weather didn't co-operate then you're just out of pocket for the money.
