I missed this the first time around but... This can't be a serious post. Shakira is a big joke. Hollywood is competitive. Only entertainers who display even a remote amount of talent survive in Hollywood. Shakira falls NO WHERE near 'talented.' All she does is shake her booty and look pretty for the camera...and so, yeah, possibly guys buy her picture to wack off to her but no one ACTUALLY listens to her music. I never liked "Leno" before but now, I've gotta give him Kudos. This is laughable :D

Fans of Shakira were in many cases rather upset with the fact that Jay Leno only asked Shakira what her name meant last night in their brief interview after she performed on the Tonight Show Friday. On her official site's message board, 'Shakirita Fan' wrote: "I am really mad. I felt that this was going to be one of her most important presentation for the American market and they did not interview her. It was as if they did not even give her a chance." mariam7 gave a more reasoned response saying, "Jay Leno does that to many singers and groups. It was nothing personal against Shakira."

She's not talented but the folks that do the actually music are.

I agree. I saw here on "Saturday Night Live" once and I don't know if it was her singing that was bad or if it was the acoustics or if the sound check didn't work well... but I just couldn't find my 'Mute' button fast enough on my remote. She mostly just shook her hips and, sure, it was sexy but that seemed to be her only appeal. But, maybe I'm just jealous. Ha ha. :)

I think her english songs are equal to Britney Spears, but I've heard a lot of here spanish material and it sounds more sophisticated (composition wise). Although, I don't know what she's saying exactly in those songs. I never saw here as untalentated.

She is definitely not a musician. She is what I call a performing artist.

Like all the recent puppets labeled as "artists"...

Is this not a talent? Seriously, I'd like to see most people do what she does. Consider her an "entertainer" rather than a musician.

Not that I'm defending that strand of "music."

i'm not too familiar with her music in english. in high school i used to hang out with the spanish teacher and we'd listen to shakira. i thought it was pretty good. my favorite was the one that went "estoy aqui, quarendo te?.....". this was years ago when she had brown hair, a slightly plumper body and no one knew who she was.

I really don't enjoy her style of music myself, but I hear Shakira has a big back-catalog of Spanish albums. Apparently, she's got to be somewhat talented to make the jump to the States and abroad... I think she's definitely more genuine than the Britneys and Avrils of the music scene today.

She must have some talent, whether it be musical or not.

You're right. The idea of talent is all opinion. What may sound/look good to some may not be to others. As long as the entertainment is enjoyed to an audience on some mediocre scale, it's marketable... shrugs. [And I mean this in a general way with no offense to those who enjoy Shakira as an artist.]

Anyone that can go up on stage and sing has a talent known as a "Special" talent.

Shakira sings those songs that are played at dances, and are used to annoy roomates, and pump bas ein cars, but has never shown herself to be particularily talented

She has more talent than the britneys out there and while she may not have the throat of mariah carey, she has some good studio producers around her, some songs are nicely produced and she does have stagepresence.

All in all she reminds me of how madonna started, she has no impressive voice either, but the songs are very well produced and musically arranged and both have instinct to catch the latest trend and pour it in a bestselling hit. supertalented? NO, succesfull through hardworking and burning desire? YES.

Kind of like an ugly duck that becomese a reasonable swan by painting her feathers white...I can respect people that can rise above their genetic limitations through hard work even though they are not very gifted..

Her English songs are bullshit

The Spanish ones are the best

I've followed her music for 8 years
