I'm looking to do some volunteer work and need some ideas. Right now I'm seriously considering volunteering as a paramedic. I'd like to try firefighting too, but I can't yet bench 250. Heh. Does anyone have any experiences being a paramedic? Or what about other volunteer activities?

I see that you like to help people if you wanted to be a paramedic but what else do you like. I volunteered at the library (art gallery) ->sounds boring but not. Got to see crazy paintings! So anyhow, I just wanted to say good idea on volunteering. Although i did it for community hours for my high school, which is mandatory i would do some more. lata'

The problem with me just about anything and everything is interesting for me. I'd do just about anything at least once to be able to say I've done it. heh.

it's cool you want to do volunteer work. i did work once at a spastics society here..... basically you just had to listen and talk A LOT to many people. it depends on whether you want to do physical stuff or stuff like the spastics thing. you have to bench 250 if you want to become a fireman?

I used to volunteer at a convalescent home. It really brightens up their day to see a smiling face. Most people that work at those places are underpaid and pissed off most of the time.

Firefighting or paramedic volunteer looks really good on a resume ~ if thats the field your trying to break in to.

Good luck:)

I volunteered at my family's church for seven years, 5th through 11th grades. I worked in the children's service every fucking Sunday morning and operated the lights, sound, video, and computer equipment. It taught me a lot about how to run techie shit, so now I'm a big dork and I understand shit like that when people talk about it!

You just can't stop making personal attacks on those that you don't agree with, can you?

I was actually considering getting a summer job or volunteering at a museum this summer. I figure if i can get paid, then great, but if not I still will have something good for a future resume.

You could always try the local community/rec center. They are often looking for volunteers, and you can volunteer for a wide variety of positions.

I've got a bit of paramedic experience!

All i can say is make sure you can handle blood and guts and lots of it! Do weightlifting and exercising and such so that it gets easier to lift all the equipment (and there's lots of it). Yeah, thats about the best advice i can give you! enjoy it!

I don't really think that qualifies as work.

Ok, maybe the doughnut-eating part does... :D
