I didn't believe it when I heard but evidently its true. There are families, people who have moved into a Disney branded old fashioned american town where the fake becomes real...white picket fence and all. Its located in Celebration, Florida not far from their Disney Kingdom or whatever.

Does Disney get to decide who lives there? Does the mayor have to wear a mickey mouse suit? I don't understand why someone would want to live their entire lives in a product packaged town, I mean its just weird.

Built in the 1990's the brochure states its "a place that takes you back to that time of innocence"

All that innocence seemed to have rendered two of the residents insane as last year there was a murder and then a suicide three days apart shocking the 11,000 residents back to reality. One resident was found beaten to death with only his chihuahua at his side. Another barricaded himself inside his home and proceeded to have a shoot out with SWAT police before blowing his brains out.

Nice.

Personally if I had to live in a fake real tv town it would be The Village from the british tv show The Prisoner. The winsome town actually exists but its only open to tourists I believe. Decidedly more cool since living in Disney is like living on a Gilligan's Island carved out in Hawaii.

So what's the fascination? What is the psychological appeal of a Disney Village? I figure only an american can answer this question. Has branding become so ubiquitous that people would desire to merge with their favorite logo as in The Truman Show? Live the logo as if one were in a Disney commercial?

Is there a point here or is this just a stream on conciousness?

I guess some people want to live in ways that they want to be a part of something that is as good as it can get for them and their family. If this type of community is something they enjoy then it is up to them to live there and be al they can be. Who's to say they are wrong in trying to find a place where they feel that they can be safe and at peace. There's a community for everyone out there somewhere, it is just up to each of us to find what we are looking for as well as others who think the same way.

You should do some research into the Disney empire and it's dark underside. It's very disturbing actually. When he bought up all that land, he actually had plans to make a semi-autonomous governing district. If you get injured there. . . they want you to "sign papers." OR else. . . .

If you really want to know some enlightening truths. . .

Disney was a high ranking Free mason, probably a Jesuit and a Knight of Malta, and I would have to do more research to find out if he was in the Illuminati. I don't care though, the bastard is dead. I HIGHLY recommend this book. It is more of a pamphlet. But these are substantiated facts from a well known and highly respected journalist from a main stream Miami paper.

Most people don't care about the questioning their assumptions though. Click the link, open your eyes. :D

What interests me is the psychology behind it. Surely there are nice towns and communities all over the US. They are choosing a brand not a town. Its like, they're not choosing the 'american dream' but Disney's marketing of the american dream.

I checked the internet and I only found one picture of her with Walt standing herd over her. She is my first cousin . Do the Math , I ain't that old . It be my time warp thing . Freaky Ah ! Doing the time warp again . Yeah Me grandpa lived during the civil war. I last saw Lucille at the Greathouse reunion in 1996. She is dead now . Died about 2 years ago

Who are YOU (or any of us) to judge how people want to live and where?? As long as they aren't breaking some law by doing so, it's just their business and no one else's.

What a stupid, STUPID conspiracy theory! :bugeye: I'd be more than willing to bet you've got one to fit EVERY situation imaginable. (Nor does it matter what idiotic journalist dreamed it up.) That's how a lot of them pay the rent - cook up a wild story, write a book and sell it to other idiots.

funny
sentience and language allow appraisal and judgment
one variable is intensity of assessment
for some it is a fleeting thought, for others it is a thread in sci

who are you to judge this...this.... creature's interests?

Nothing funny about it - even in your attempt at rudeness and contempt, all you've really done is underscore my point exactly. Thank you.

A friend of mine who owns a massive used bookstore in Philadelphia went to some sort of "book convention" on the island of Portmeiron a couple of years ago. Apparently, it's relatively close to some Welsh town which boasts the highest concentration of book stores in the world. I can imagine myself living there, and having the ghosts of Patrick McGoohan and Leo Mckern as my neighbors.

I said before its not a judgement, I'm looking at the psychology behind the desire to live in a town that's basically a large fake corporate branding. Or maybe this is the wave of the future in the US. Maybe there will be Nike Town, or Starbucks Village. Its not the same as choosing a nice town because its a nice town. It says something about the culture and that is what I am trying to explore, obviously you lot can't think that deeply. Its worth exploring. Just think of how much corporate branding is part of the american life, how its seeped into universities for example. Remember the two students who were payed by a corporation to wear corporate logos everyday in exchange for college tuition? Isn't this just another form of that same kind of branding?

If you want fantasy land live in Missoula . It is not called Zoo town for nothing . It has also been called little Berkly . Art abounds and many artists live here. Flat head lake is close by and the rich and famous are walking the streets. Blows my mind sometimes . I think Hughy Long ( Is that his name , did I get it right ? Foot Ball player I think and Action Hero, T.V. commercials) sold his place at Finley Point. I wood drive by it on the way to Sally Amrines Were we would go boating . Head over to the Diamond Horse Shoe bar for cocktails by boat water skiing some of the time. Were I might add if you look at the wood bending work at the Diamond Horse Shoe , that Be Me carpenter artistry . Stop in and take a looksy on your way to Glacier Park if you ever go. David Letterman lives in the area . Never Met Him but my plumber plumbed his house . He sued his painter for over charging him for his paint job . David Letterman Over Paying ? Come on what was that all about ? The Judge saw it Davids way though. People with Money are a fucking riot. Yeah Zoo town is one crazy Mo fo of a town . Ted Turner he lives in a different part of the State , but he would have to because his property is as big as some of your states . Anyway Disney Town ain't got nothing on Zoo Town as far as fairy tales go

It is terrible . We had these college girls with skimpy out fits on driven the residential streets in the back of a pick up truck about 2 years ago and they would pile out with an energy drink in there hand and ask you to try it and tell them what you think about that . I didn't know what the hell was going on with that . I thought they were going to rob Me , instead the flirted Me up good and used pretty persuasion to get me to drink the drink and hope I get hooked

And what does that have to do with corporate branding seeping into every aspect of american life?
