Like maybe the group name can be highlighted in bold if there's new stuff there.
But the groups thing is so far totally useless, other than identifying members interested, In terms of discussion of a topic, it's not that great, because people can't know when something's been posted.

Maybe it's possible that you get a notification, just like when someone has posted you a visitors message.

I think there was a problem with the Subscription system in an earlier build of the groups software, so when a software update was applied there was actually a "rollback" in regards to the groups not having Subscription. A future update should eventually be available which will bring back the ability to use Subscriptions on groups.
Until then, I'm afraid you are going to have to make do.
