View Full Version : Who are you people?????
taylan007 10-18-01, 08:49 AM i just wanna know one thing.
Is this a site that answers the questions of life, or is it where all the freaks come to freak out other people???
We are a hodgepodge of character(s).
Porfiry 10-18-01, 11:51 AM We are a civilized lot.
For the most part ... but not always :D
Pollux V 10-18-01, 03:35 PM not always...civilized. grrrr, (drooling noises) me hungry. braiiiin.
machaon 10-18-01, 03:42 PM Am I a freak just because I sometimes pretend I am the mechanical owl from the movie "CLASH OF THE TITANS" as I prance around the house, wearing nothing more than an oven mit, to the background beat of Enyas' hit song "ORINICO FLOW"?
machaon 10-18-01, 08:09 PM The film chronicles the heroic journey of Perseus, son of a mortal mother and immortal father—Zeus, chief among the gods on Olympus. The vengeful goddess Thetis, seeing Zeus’ affection for the boy, spirits Perseus away from his peaceful island home to Joppa, where he befriends an aging playwright named Ammon. In Joppa, Perseus also learns of the stunning Princess Andromeda, whom Thetis has cursed. If Perseus (or any other brave suitor) can solve Andromeda’s riddle, the princess will be his. A bad guess, however, means instant death.
In searching for an answer, Perseus comes across the winged horse Pegasus, who becomes another friend and loyal companion. The handsome Perseus does solve Andromeda’s riddle, but Thetis has another foul trick up her billowy sleeve: In thirty days, Andromeda must be sacrificed to the great Kraken, an enormous sea beast, or Joppa will be destroyed. The only way to defeat the Kraken is with the severed head of Medusa, a snake-like Gorgon whose look turns any creature to stone. But a quest to find and retrieve the Gorgon’s head would be nearly as suicidal as taking on the Kraken itself.
Clash of the Titans made the occasional nod to Star Wars, throwing in a cute mechanical owl called Bubo for comic relief, but the focus was fully on grand spectacle, delivered with old-school special effects and classical, mythic storytelling. The film was only modestly received in its time, but an entire generation of fantasy buffs still holds it up as a modern classic, one of the last great examples of pre-computer-age creature cinema.
“Find…and fulfill your destiny!”
<i>'Am I a freak just because I sometimes pretend I am the mechanical owl from the movie "CLASH OF THE TITANS" as I prance around the house, wearing nothing more than an oven mit, to the background beat of Enyas' hit song "ORINICO FLOW"?'</i>
LMAO. And your arms are flapping up and down? You know, that show might earn you money if performed on stage.
Welcome to Sciforums, taylan007.
We are just folk from all over the world here. There is a constant influx of new blood which adds to the mix. Always there are new ideas and thoughts as well as some reoccurring themes. Some of the older members are some of most reasoning and helpful people you will find anywhere. Sort of an internet good neighbor. I find this site refreshing for its people. You do not find the flaming and crudeness that you find elsewhere either, as Porfiry mentioned, it is civilized. Try some of the other boards like in the Yahoo group and I think it iwll be enough to drive you away from message boards if it were not for sites like this. I found this board when it was Exosci, just before the change over to Sciforums and you could say I have found a home. It is here. I like this place with all it's characters and quirkyness it is a fine place. So stay around and see.
BLASTOFF 10-19-01, 01:42 PM Welcome taylan007 this site is a civilation of its own welcome to it. stay around and enjoy.
You can't really become a member of this community until you have met, and defeated, the Vourklun on a field of battle of his choosing. I suggest you choose the mace ... unless you are adept at some other ancient weapon of battle.
Good luck ... and may you survive :D
Riddler 10-19-01, 10:29 PM I'm just somebody who can't stand chat boards & likes to hear prepared thoughts by others. I also like science and the discussion of new science ideas, although it can get a little weird sometimes <img src="http://sciforums.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=57641">
peter/peter 10-20-01, 12:15 AM How do you get the pictures for your names. Have I not posted enough, what do I need to do.........

Look under the forum of Announcements and how-tos. Porfiry has been nice enough to leave some info there on this subject.
machaon 10-20-01, 07:10 PM Do you know anyone who has this lunchbox for sale?
Clash of the Titans lunchbox (http://www.yesterdayland.com/popopedia/shows/lunchboxes/lb1078.php)
Does anyone know where there might be LOTS of avatars to choose from, or how I can find a pic that I like and make it really small to call my own? Sorry, I know you've probably had this question thousands of times but I'm getting envious at all the cool avatars that are appearing.
Cheers
Teri
Welcome Taylan007, we really are a diverse group. I like to think of it like a continuous dinner party where you can sit and talk to someone, then go and sit somewhere else at the table and have a chat to them, and so on. Come and go as you please. Enjoy yourself. Be yourself.
Cheers
Teri :)
Pollux V 11-26-01, 07:42 AM Do a search on google, teri 2 for avatars. From what I can recollect the results are few and satisfactory. Once you get a good picture and if you want to edit it down go to www.gifworks.com, but it must be a .gif file. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the tip Shrike.
The hunt is now in progress for an avatar that I'll be happy with. The problem is I'm female, so you know how long it will take to make up my mind!
Happy November
Teri
We are one of the last outposts of civilization and intelligence on net.
Let us stop barbarians by our walls.

Do you not consider having survived your encounter with 'The' Vourklun prize enough?
Oh, and by the way: Which weapon did you choose? ;)
Some brave soul choose the tooth pick but alas he is with us no more....
MuliBoy 11-27-01, 11:25 PM I thought I beat him... but it was but a wee smurf.
Pounded him with a shoe.
Received no prize :(

Me survive? (Hah!) Truth to tell, t'was not I who had cause to worry, my friend. These "cyber-vourkluns" are a dime-a-dozen, ya know. Bark's always bigger than their bite. Left him to those who've a taste for that sort of......*ahem*....challenge.
Weapon? Ah, yes! The mace is a superb choice, but I prefer my own truth-etched warhammer. Granted, it's a mere 'one-handed blunt,' tho' finely crafted and perfectly...balanced.
Sufficient armament for a Counterbalance, I think. ;)
Counterbalance 11-28-01, 08:42 PM No toothpicks? no minty wrappers? just a machine that spits jagged slivers of wood...?
(Guess you're out of Grey Poupon, too?!)
::sigh::
Oh, well. Please put me on the waiting list for a spearmint wood sliver, and hold the plastic?
Thx,
Counterbalance
real classy outfit, huh? ;)
For the victorious ones....
