View Full Version : Who do you think is the most under/over rated Star Wars character?

UberDragon

I think that Plo Koon (that orange-faced Jedi master who sits and does nothing) is a most underated character. He is even in Episode II during the big battle sequence. Look for him.

P.S. please submit something

Over-rated: Luke, the series really wouldn't sell if it wasn;t for Han.

Underated: All of the Star Wars bad guys. Seriously no one gives credit to the fact Star Wars has the best bad guys. Vader without a doubt is the best villian in film history. At least thats how I feel.

Storm Troopers from the original movies. They were supposed to be elite soldiers, and they were beaten up by teddy bears?!

"You see the Storm Troopers were forced to fight where as the Rebels faught for a cause they believed in."

No trained solider, no matter how little he cares for his cause, could be as bad as the storm troopers were.

Over - Obiwan in the original ones. I really wasn't a big fan of him. Not the acting, just his part in general.

Under - Yoda and Han. In the original series that is. Now that Yoda has fought everyone loves him. In the original series I thought he was one of the best characters. And Han carried the movies. Or, Harrison Ford did.

hmm... I think Jango didn't get enough time in the movie, but he wasn't underrated. I mean, he killed a few jedi and lasted more than a minute against windu. It takes balls to go up against him!

The most underrated character in the original was Grand Moff Tarkin. He was more evil than palpatine in more ways than one. And how about that stormtrooper who bangs his head on the blast door? He deserves some credit. :D The most overrated is almost any of the jedi. Their lightsabre techniques are too focused on looking kickass that I could take out almost any of them. It's hard to enjoy stupid flourishes when you know as much about swords etc. that I do.:D

Cactus Jack
06-07-02, 02:10 PM
Ben, if you did not know by now I am somewhat of a swordsman myself. And yes evey movie I can think of that pictures sword use (except fencing maybe) are quite false in the way they picture it. However, we are dealing with lightsabers, fictional devices that look incredibly cool whilst being twirled around.

The storm troopers were seriously overrated.

They took the place of the Keystone Cops and it would seem could do no right. How could any empire fight with such troops? Much less win. To be the size that the films suggests the empire is either there are a lot of whoosies out there begging to be taking over or the film failed to build a serious creditablity for the basic bad guy.

Sorry if I sound like a noob, but how are the Stormtroopers in Episode IV different than the clones used in Episode II? Are the IV troopers just regulars guys that were forced into the imperial force? The troopers in II seemed to be a bit more individualistic, even though they were all based on Jango.

Bebelina
07-05-02, 07:11 PM
For what I have understood the stormtroopers in episode IV are not clones, but common soldiers who has been enlisted to the empire, and the armor is designed differently.

Storm Troopers are the biggest wusses in history. They outnumber anyone, have guns, and big AT-ST's, but they get the crap kicked out of them by a bunch of furry midgets!

Dave, I'm pissing in my pants. That is so true. I wouldn't take any of that crap from a teddy bear with a sling shot. I'd just raise my laser rifle and say to it 'Come on, it'll be fun' and squeeze the trigger and Bam Right Between the eyes.
How could the AT-ST's get blown up by two peices of wood. The can withstand blaster fire and rockets, but not a peice of wood. That one was definatly a kiddy movie.
Anywho, most over rated is definatly Darth Vader. Cool as he was, just people love him for the wrong reasons.
Under rated, the Scout Troopers.
A - They have cool armour
B - One of them actually killed an Ewok (YAY:D :D :D )
C - They get those speeder bikes
D - They actually put up a fight.

Lesion, that trooper who bangs his head. Kudos to him. Kudos.

The Clones are super cool. They could lose the Aussie accent though.

Underrated: Darth Mauhl, I mean he got it bad because he was in a crap movie but dude was GANGSTER! Cool make-up, he actually looked scary, he's more mobile then Vader (not saying he can even be compared but...) I mean compare lightabre battles from now to then, way more action-packed now. I understand what Cactus and Lesion are saying when it comes to the sword fights being a little uhhhhh, dramatic but I agree with Cactus, I mean c'mon! They're LIGHTSABRES! And I thought the Phantom Menace dual was breath-taking. Plus he killed Qui-Gon. I should know this, but which one is Plo Kloon (I'm pretty sure he's a jedi). Is he the guy with the coneheadish head who loses his saber at the massive arena battle in ep 2?

There was also that blue guy, he was in the background when Anakin and Obi were talking to the council in the beginning of Ep 2, and then at the end he's there and he jumps down to kill Dooku but he gets shot, like, immediately by Jango. When I saw that happen I was like "you stupid fuck, you're a jedi, you only get killed by other jedi, you stupid...fuck." :D

Plus he was on the council, they're better than that, damnit! Those droids didn't have a frigging chance and they were kicking ass until the clones arrived!! I mean, come on!

UberDragon

No Pollux, he has an orange face. here is some info from starwars.com:

The Force runs strongly in Plo Koon's family; he was a descendent of a long line of Jedi. He shared a long history with fellow Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and the two have fought beside each other in battle. Koon had hoped to see his friend join the Jedi Council, but Jinn's maverick views kept him from ascending to that position.

Plo Koon was a Kel Dor from the planet Dorin. His physiology was such that he wore protective goggles and his face-concealing antiox mask whenever in oxygen-rich environments. As a Dorin, Koon naturally possessed highly developed extrasensory organs that supplement his already formidable Jedi attributes.

Koon was more martial a Jedi than most. Kel Dor natives have a reputation for seeing moral issues in black and white, with clear distinctions between right and wrong. As such, Koon often took decisive action with little contemplation. This initiative served him well during the Stark Hyperspace Wars, when he took up the Republic banner after a great Jedi Master was killed. Koon rallied the disheartened troops to an unlikely and miraculous victory.

Most over-rated: R2D2, all he does is drive around making telephone noises. He looks like a little talking garbage can. He's still cool though =P

He's...just...stupid...he's a dumbass, he should be a trash collector on Anoat rather than a frickin jedi...he gets shot by JANGO!! And then he FALLS and doesn't SURVIVE presumably...

I'd like to bring to attention the incredible awesomeness of one Admiral Piett. This guy is fricken awesome. I mean, just look at him!

http://northern-dreams.com/cards/admiralpiett.jpg

He's the only imperial officer in two films, he doesn't get killed by Darth Vader, and he's probably the best actor out of all the imperial officers, and all of the tertiary star wars characters (even though I'd like to point out that not one of the actors in any of the original films who played minor roles were less than outstanding, for extras, I mean). This guy rules. He even has a cult website. Even though it isn't very good. And it's pretty nerdy.

How dumb was Grand Moff Tarkin to actually fire the Death Star at Yavin 4 when they had sensors and cannons protecting the vent??? I mean, even Vader knew that there were rebels in side that canyon/canal thingie.

For everyone talking about the sword fighting style in starwars.

They actually had all the actors train in kendo, which was the Japanease style of sword fighting. All the moves they do are pretty close to the stuff you'll see at a typical kendo match, excluding when they fight 2 people at a time or use a weird lightsaber.

And that stance they use, that isn't protecting their vital organs, is much less vulnerable than you think :)

UberDragon
12-06-02, 10:57 PM
That's what makes him the goodie-goodie. It is a very cliche, rags-and-speedsters-to-Jedi-and-saving-the-galaxy-from-oppresion role. I've always preferred the storylines when Luke is just a minor character. If you want good characters, look at people like Kyle Katarn or some of the comic book characters or the Jedi counsel members. Some of their stories are pretty interesting. Like Plo Koon's.:D :D

I totally agree with you JadedSapphire mentioning the Jedi Council. I really would have like to see the other members give insight to the discussions we see in Episodes 1 and 2. Not just Yoda, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Mace Windu. Nothing against these 3 but I would really like to hear Plo Koon speak because of his breath mask he has to wear.

If C3PO is always following R2 around, does that mean that R2 is the man in the relationship? I mean 3PO is pretty wussy, but that could be attributed to the fact that he is like 3 feet taller than R2 and always gets hit by blaster fire and such.

That's kind of sexist in a way. Because you're assuming A) women follow men around and B) are weaker than men. I never really assigned genders to these characters. I always thought 3P0 was supposed to be a know it all bigmouthed chicken little. While R2 was the spunky one who prefered to act instead of standing around talking about it. They are oposites and it helps create tension and comdey between them.
