I'm a malaysian, do not know much about US.

Just want to ask, why people join army?
What incentives they get? High salary ? Good retirement benefits?

Can you join army after high school?

Please tell me the enrollment system into army in US .

Almost every 5 years US is involved in WAR, to be a soldiers, you got to prepare to die!

:(

I know a lot of people who join because the army will pay for your higher education.
I think thats a big motivator.

Well... it is different for officers, then it is for enlisted people.

Enlisted people do it because they are either stupid, or beleive that they have no other option (sometimes a mix of the two).

Offciers may do it for a career, or the scholarships (as previously mentioned).

I'm actually seriously considering this path... It probably wouldn't be too hard for me to become a pilot... I've got great vision, good spatial awareness, and I'm smart... So, you get a free education, 6 years of officer pay, a potential career in the military (or in fields related to whatever you did in the military [for example, being a pilot, and then leaving the military to be an airline pilot]), and just being in the military makes you seem like a more rounded person on your resume.

However... chances are I'm not gonna touch this path with a 10 foot stick. I personaly like to be able to think for myself... The military is about following orders.

:( Selamat pagi! Apa khabar?

I'm 20 years old, and I'm enlisting in the U.S. Navy after I graduate. I lived in Malaysia for 3 1/2 years. Kuala Lumpur in fact. Right in front of the KLCC, near Jalan Ampang and Jalan Tun Razak.

Why enlist? Well, depends who you are. I can only tell you why I want to enlist.

I graduated in the fall of 2001. I had two options. Go to university and get my degree, or enlist in the army. My parents coached me to enlist, but I decided I'd rather get a degree first and then enlist as an officer. That was a mistake which I regret these days, but I have to live with it.

I want to enlist to serve my country. The fact that we are a free nation costed blood. Soldier's blood. If anything happens while I am young and able to serve, I'd never forgive myself if I didn't. It is a very, very strong driving force. I want to serve my country.

Second, you meet people. Yes you can do that everywhere, but the fact that you put your life on the line for those friends, and they do that for you, is something you don't get outside of the military easily. You make GOOD friends.

Third, you learn lots of stuff. How to survive. It makes you a man, a real man. You train your body. You know how to deal with an alternative lifestyle. You get to do cool stuff. Jumping out of planes. Lots of guns, LOTS OF GUNS (my hobby). You learn!

Fourth, if you go this route, the military will pay for your education in return for service.

I'm enlisting as soon as I graduate. I can't wait. I'm sad that I didn't enlist in 2001, but that is the past and I'm halfway with a degree.

Would you give YOUR life for your country if called to do it?

Almost every 5 years US is involved in WAR, to be a soldiers, you got to prepare to die! that also depends alot on what you chose to do. there are many different jobs, not all of them include actual combat. still risky.. but no more than anything else.

I don't know the "why" for others but I enlisted in the Navy out of high school rather than go to college because I wasn't ready for college. I had the grades and all but I needed a break from the education system.
In the Navy I learned electronics and allot more. I got to visit Texas, Tennessee, southern California, Hawaii, Japan, Hong Kong and the Philppines.
Then I went to college and did very well.
