We feel emptiness. We think all the things we desire will fill up that emptiness. We go out to do and get what we desire.

We eat, sleep and dispose of used food to survive. We want to survive cause we are attached to ourselves.

We usualy love to fill our void with another person. We drain their energy.

The highest act we can do is love someone without draining them. A noble art indeed, although only the essence of human existence.

I want to be as close to being a god as possible. If the immortality and the powers are out of the question I would be satisfied with doing something to improve the world and get me remembered.

Are the evildoers remembered better or are the ones that defeat them the real historical landmarks?

We are human, we do human things. While many (but not all) people are unique to one another, our actions and reactions fall under the same principles: Need, and want. Animals live by need. Humans live by want.

That's why we have wars, that's why we love, and that's why we cannot co-exist with one another (on the grander scale of things).

What do you mean by "the things we do"?

Do you mean, "Why do we continue to sustain our bodies even uder the most dire of conditions? Why do we yearn for life, even if we can only expect misery, anguish, and embitterment?"

If that's what you ask, we do so simply for the good of the species. We do not endure the hardships of this world for ourselves since we are all quite aware of our inevitable deaths:We persevere so that our posterity might know and avoid our errors. Though one might not be conscious of his or her motives, one's actual goal in life is to produce offspring that were better than he or she was. If you fail to learn from your mistakes and either generate improved progeny or instruct someone else's progeny (in the case of teachers, who relay all the essential information gathered by the last generation) your existence was a hindrance to the human machine, and we would have been better off without you.

NOTE: There are exceptions to this. Those who discover or devise new methods of accomplishing necessary tasks deserve recognition regardless of whether or not they themselves conceived or taught any children.

Redoubtable,
I agree with you its one hell of a battle to keep sane on this "mad world. "WHOEVER OR WHATEVER DESIGNED THIS LIFE FOR MANKIND had the brains of a "Rocking horse". even when you get older,we all have to suffer through illness .
It would have been wiser to have been born of old age and slowly come down in age and to disappear up your own naval , less suffering less hustle...less fear!.
Why do we choose to do the things that we do?
Its because we are all selfish ..people only do things because its good for them!!
"who's a cheerful boy then!!!

Don't you mean 'what makes us want to do things?' or 'what makes us want to do something? (as opposed to doing nothing)'

Every choice you make directs you. You are aware of this. You are trying to point yourself in the right direction through your choices.

we are cogs in a greater machine. Our actions allow the world to go on. Without every person acting and being just as they are, the world would simply no longer function properlly.:m:
