Looks like they are turning some of Arthur C.Clarkes best work into a film for 2006?!?
Thank god for that. Anyone else got any information.
Pretty cool!! Except for the Morgan Freeman part but whatever.

Cool. I actually never read the first one, I started with Rama II and finished the whole series from then on. Is the first actually that great?
Deena...I used to have that same avatar. Crikey!!
How unoriginal of me.

I read Asimovs foundation series completely out of order. Believe me it takes alot away from it.
(hmm that dosn't really make sense, but i am going to post anyway...)
I thought the first was the best. It had a sense of wonder that really didn't come through as well in the following books.

Maybe I'll take a look, I'm working on Heretics of Dune right now, but at they don't have the book at the library I'm at right now and I lack internet access at home so I can't order it...maybe I'll be able to but it would be fairly *challenging*.
What's with all the reading out of order? Sci-fi should have clearly printed numbers on the spine, dammit.
I too, did this. With Benford's Galactic Center series or whatever. I read 2 and 3 and then realized I didn't read the first one. Now it's really hard to work up the desire to get through it. I mean...I already know what happens. Come on!
What I hate is when the library or bookstore doesn't have the first one. They might have the last three, or two in the middle, or just the second one, but not the first. One pet peeve for you.

Yes i agree. or if not on the pine then inside the book. Unfortunatley the problem with that is what if the Author decided to bring out another book at the start of the series? All your numbers would be wrong. or would you have 0 and -1 etc?
Most will have a list inside that will give the titles in hte order they were published. Unless a prequel is available, and you know which one is first, order of publishing is best. Another pet peeve is when they put the author's picture or reviews(especailly of another book) on the back instead of those summary things you see. It's also nice to be able to open up to the begining and be able to read an excerpt(a piece of the book will tell you the author's writing style, and helps you see if you like it).

This is what you think. Benford seems content to veer from this trend. He likes to put book 1 after books 2-4. You know, for kicks.
And I've seen lots of people that don't do that. But luckily they're polite enough to just leave it blank.
