Das ist interresant. Depends on what you wanna learn for, I suppose, and how different a language you want. Dutch would be easiest of the languages you named. Not only are the words recognizable, but also the grammar is identical to German grammar, from what I can determine. Scandinavian languages are Germanic, but they're North Germanic while English, German, and Dutch are all West Germanic. Russian isn't Germanic, but is Indo-European, although it's in the "satem" branch rather than the "kentum" branch, meaning it's quite distantly related. Some aspects of Russian may be harder than Mandarin, but I think overall Russian is easier than Mandarin. I hear Chinese will become very important, for economic reasons. I don't see Russian gaining much more importance until their economy improves, and I have no idea what Arabic's status is.
i wouldnt say that dutch is that easy, it has more exceptions than rules :s and omg the different slang every city has pfff.. at least in belgium it is like that, i imagine that in holland its the same stuff but the grammar, its not the same as in german. in dutch we dont have the dativ and so on rules, thats just the first thing that pops in my mind. also the use of active and passive sentenses is different i think. the words on the other hand are very similar Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! russian on the other hand is an extremely rich language, with a gianourmous vocabulary, and its a language of puns lol, but still, it has its rules and you have to follow them. what you see is what you get. actually, they use almost the same rules as in german, with the dativ, nominativ,...
