"Infinity seems to be impossible to imagine."

    "So is finity."

That is such a profound conversation...seriously!

Thank you both for enlightening me...

Balance the idea of the finite & the infinite out in your mind simultaneously & you're left with the answer you're looking for.

I think the work of social theorist Anthony Giddens bears some relevance to the question 'Where am I?' particularly in relation to this position of being balanced between the finite and infinite.

My reading of Giddens: The infant has no conception of space and time apart from the distance and regularity of tending by parent(s)/caretaker. Later the cycles of separation and togetherness are transposed onto cultural activities.
Routines become symbols of negotiation with something that is absent and 'not-me'...where we are is anywhere we perform our rituals/routines.

I know what you feel. I've also allways felt a emptiness in my life, cause things aren't what they should be, they were at some point, and they are sometimes, but overall there is a lack of something.

Perhaps it has to do with the potential of what we may be in contrast to the reality of what we are right now. However, if you were everything you could be, your full potential, then the quest is over, and who is to say that we should be everything we can? That would make life a constant struggle and perhaps we can change, and become something else. If we too soon became everything of our potential right now, then we might miss something that was added to the potential later and things would...well they would crumble.

I think that the lack that I feel, is the failure to accept my situation since I have trouble accepting my flaws. I don't know about you, perhaps if you think about it you will come up with your own answer, and maybe you will pursue that answer and find that it was wrong, the important thing is that you search for it even if you fail to see the correct answer at once.

Who knows, you may find that the glass is not half-empty anymore.

This quote gives one the explanation.

"We live together, we act on, and react to, one another; but always and in all circumstances we are by ourselves. The martyrs go hand in hand into the arena; they are crucified alone. Embraced, the lovers desperately try to fuse their insulated ecstasies into a single self-transcendence; in vain. By its very nature every embodied spirit is doomed to suffer and enjoy in solitude. Sensations, feelings, insights, fancies—all these are private and, except through symbols and at second hand, incommunicable. We can pool information about experiences, but never the experiences themselves. From family to nation, every human group is a society of island universes." -ALDOUS HUXLEY in 'The Doors of Perception'

I think this feeling is wide spread. For me, I have to believe there is more to me than just now, otherwise everything is empty, shallow. If everything is connected and I am part of that, then I am more than me and makes my existance about more than just me.

If I am "it", that is inadiquite, but if that is all there is, I might as well just live for me, forget past present and future generations. And back to the origianl question what is the point.

This thread is another fine example that we need a new sub-forum: "completely inane topics obviously derived from the thought (sic) of the hopelessly retarded".

I submit that this new sub-forum should be a sub-section of the "Religion" sub-forum.

(Yeah, I know, It's almost redundant....)

we are not alone dragon, dont you see that we are all going through this together, people change and enter new stages of life as we grow older, life is fast and it can also be slow,

when you want something to come so badly it takes forever, and when you grab onto time and hope for it to slow down it goes fast. when your younger you want to grow up so fast and it takes ages, but when you grow older and finaly have grown up, you wish to be younger,

just look at life for what it is, go into the real world, out into nature and spend alot of time with the natural wild enviromen, if only for a few weeks or months, it will slow your perception of time down and maybe you can find your way again by spending time with yourself in the natural world. you have to help yourself, others can only point you in the right direction, try not to take life so seriously, stress only does harm.

what do you think the root of the problem is, what triggered this off?

    peace.

that maybe has a chance of bieng remotely true, but you should maybe try not to assume to much before you are certain for a reason, you have become broken by the thought of the eternal void of nothingness,

ofcourse your opinion is as valid as mine. but i think personaly that you posess a one dimentional thought proccess as to the origins and reasons for the universes existence.

we cannot be so sure that it is as cold and meaningles as you believe it to be. because there is ofcourse the chance that the universe was planned and takes order from a higher force,

the universe and all existence of any kind is a spectacular and amazing feat to be honest and randomness doesent exist, because to say something is completely random would be implying that things happen without cause and effect rules, everything happens because something made it happen, you cannot witness anything happening for no apparent reason of any sort, for something to react in a certain way something must trigger that with a starting action,

you could think of the universe as one super trickle down effect from the very first actions of this known universe and existence.

or you could think of the univese as a mathematical sum,

say we are at the 100000000000000th action in the universe (hypertheticaly) you go back action by action untill you reach 0, now you cannot go beyond 0 right. but you cannot make 1 with two 0's. (follow me?) so the universe could not have started atall logically, unless something actualy created it in some way, or you would be constantly left with 0 without adding a 1 in somewhere etc etc, 0+0=0 so for the very first action to have come into universal play how do you explain that?

    dont judge to quickly grasshopper.

    peace.
