The rule on that forum would be that if you make one post on the entire forum one day, you may not post any more in the "Carefull forum" at all that day.

That would be the only additional rule.

    But you may edit.

It sounds like a good idea, but I think there should only be a limit in the 'careful' subforum. It needs a better name, too

If you only had one shot.

The idea is a much higher quality of post in this subforum?
Why not just make a normal thread and use alpha-rules?

Because 1 rule is better then 14 (that when you think closer on it, does much the same thing)

Also, it would make a choosen few very excited about posting there, they would read the post again and again, and post the next day.
Perhaps they would even find some links and do alot of work on the post.

Sounds a bit tedious-- like trying to write a haiku

What I mean is that it constrains itself to some sort of weird format with tiny boundaries. You have to strategically write as much as you can in a limited amount of space (like a haiku).

Anyone could keep pace in the "If you only had one shot" forum.
Anything you write there would be written at your own risk

If the argument was wrong nobody would reply to the thread anymore, because they don't want to waste their posts.
a strategic guide would be given in which this was explained, etc.
Strategic guides are oftenly more fun then rules.
Another strategy would be to look on the poster which gets the most said, to post in time for as many as possible to reply etc.

I just saw this thread (outdated stuff, my favourite reading) and I must admit that I like the idea. A sort of an experimental forum, left for general scientific discussion (or life, ideas, etc).

I would love to see further discussion on this. How it could be applied, rules that should be followed, subjects of discussion, etc.

    Thanks for idea Smellsniffsniff!

I can never remember who... Maybe it was Ghandi? Maybe the Dalai Lama? Anyway, who it was is of little consequence right now. Whoever it was selected one day out of every week - I don't know if it was the same day every week or just a random day - to not say a word.
It's not that he would sequester himself or something. He would go about his day as if it were any other day. He would just do it silently. He recommended every one try it at least once.
It shouldn't be a passive exercise, just to cut down on noise pollution or some such thing. It should be an active silence. Every time you want to say something, rather than saying it, you should think about what it is you want to say - and more importantly, why. He said people would be astonished at how much entirely unnecessary shit they say just to be saying something. People often speak simply to hear themselves speak - to prove how clever and witty they can be. They don't usually listen to what others have to say - not really. They just allow others to speak out of some sordid form of courtesy, so they can be afforded that same courtesy when it comes time - if they do even that. They don't want to have a conversation, they want to be heard. If you refrain from speaking at all, you'll actually be forced to hear what people have to say. When people talk, it is more often than not simply verbal masturbation.

I've always liked that idea, and this forum reminds me of that.
    I'm all for it.

No editing your post after clicking submit.
There should also be a size limit on posts.

    I love you man!

Well, I wouldn't want to spoil it, so I guess we could make a test forum and see if the idea needs to be polished or if we see any lacks in it. I guess moderators would be aloud to edit with an explanation on why but only post one own post in the forum per day just as the rest of us. Or if this is too much of a limit, we could have special "mod exceptions" under the member rules in the "post rules and strategy" thread.

I think the mod allowance should only apply directly to necessary mod duties for the mod(s) of that forum alone.

    Exactly. It's a basic concept.
Option "You could submit your other post in 24 hours" should be added as well.

    I like it.

    Or "Think before ink"

Anyway, I think that forum should ensure discussion on a 'higher level'.

How about some sort of green light at the "one a day" forum, when you may post, just so that you know. It could be a script connected to the post function that activates when you post and simply create a red light for 24 hours. Perhaps that was obvious, I just wanted to point out that it should be fairly simple, given that you know exactly how to do it.

Or some sort of password request before you enter the forum. The forum could be called "Level one" or something.

It's possible to determine the time limit for posting within the forum back end. So everyone could be noticed with message that he/she is unable to post in that forum for next 24 hours (or less, depends on how we choose).

Well, I think it should be opened to everyone. Considering that everyone has right to post once a day, password is not necessary. Off topic posts will be deleted anyway, if someone 'strays' into forum.

So basically it is a "hardcore mode", time between posts undecided, subcathegories, how many do you figure? The most popular topics perhaps... Or the most promising topics?

I agree about that and on the rest, it would also make use of the mail system.

    ^previous poster. Yes, a poll.

Also, you must be entitled to delete your post, if you change your mind. Or?

    I don't understand.

    Absolutely not.
    Once you submit, you submit.
If you change your mind, you can type a retraction the next day, if you wish.
You made your bed, and you have to lie in it - at least overnight.

    Other name suggestions:
    Sleep on it.
    One day at a time.
    Make it count.
