They were never able to prove that marijuana actually damaged the lungs, either. No dramatic blackened lungs from autopsies.

Cigarretes are legal, cannabis is illegal.
Guns are legal, cannabis is illegal.
Nuclear weapons are legal, cannabis is illegal.

This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, eh?

Yes, but only the weak ones.
So don't smoke it. There are plenty of better ways. Brownies, tea, infusion, and now they have those vaporizers.
Good grief. You live in a drug-free household and your kids get injured so often that you actually have to plan your life around that contingency??? You can't just say what the hell this only happens once every three years, I'll just splurge and take a taxi??? This doesn't speak very well of the quality of a drug-free lifestyle.

A couple of years ago they published an exhaustive study that had been done in frelling Jamaica, where it was easy to find people who got loaded every day for something like twenty years. There was no difference in health between the control group and the happy group. Lung cancer seems to be a tobacco thing. Not to mention even major potheads only smoke the equivalent of about two or three packs a month. Well maybe more in Jamaica.

Frankly, alcohol and tobacco ought to be criminalised too, for the sake of consistency.

Alcohol is most probably more destructive than 'MJ', I agree. But we are really only talking about 'MJ' here though

The study posted in the OP seems to suggest that 'MJ disconnects the neuronal structure and reconnects when MJ is stopped'.

Since they really don't know all of the reasons that cause myelodysplasia or pneumonia then we can't rule out that pot COULD have been a contributing reason but only time will tell so why take a chance on destroying your own body if you don't know what pot will do to it. It has been shown in some testing that is does cause cancer. Isn't that wonderful, get high and get sick later on in life. Better to be careful with what you inhale than risking your life on it.

There's no reason for it to be legal either. we know that it impairs your senses and that affects your drives and coordination quite a bit. I just don't think it should be seen as a real bad drug like heroin, crack or meth but make it a misdemeanor crime instead punishable by fines.

Actually weed has been shown to slow down Multiple Sclerosis and Alzheimer's and also help treat other brain diseases. Has been shown to help fight cancer and in some cases cure cancer all together. This guy stepped up and told the world he used oil that he made from Marijuana that he rubbed on his skin and it cured his cancer.
It's been shown to help prevent/stop brain damage from a brain injury. Has been shown to help treat Diabetes. Is a more effective pain-killer then Opiate and safer as well. Has been shown to help treat people with Epilepsy and much more.

Never been shown to cause cancer in the lungs. Never has killed anyone. Never has been proven to effect driving. A study was done and they could tell no difference in driving ability from the person that was stoned and the person that was sober(still wouldn't recommend it). Another study was done that said it did but probably was an anti-pot study and false information.

Also unlike alcohol and tobacco. Weed does not kill neurons but actually grows more of them.

The pro's out way the negatives which is smoking, but because marijuanas has anti-cancer properties it's not much of a problem and is blown out of proportion.

If your afraid of smoke then don't ever stand by a fire pit, In which our ancestors did for thousands of years in order to keep warm, cook, and survive. Or light incense heck don't even step outside and lock yourself in your room with an air purifier. We don't want the exhaust from our cars to damage your lungs.

You are aware smoking is not the only method of Marijuana usage. You can cook it (brownies, Pasta, Candy, etc..) Extract into oil and put it into capsules. Or a vaporizer which is safe and even a more effective method than smoking.

But here's a study that says differently.........

The study also suggests that marijuana contains more than 50% more of the chemicals related to lung cancer than cigarettes, its a chemical inside marijuana called THC that may prevent cancer from developing.

THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, may have the ability to kill damaged cells before they become cancerous.
Is this a green light to smoke marijuana?
Absolutely not. Marijuana still contains chemicals that are harmful to the health. When marijuana is inhaled, it is usually held in for times longer than cigarette smoke, thus allowing tar and other chemicals to be absorbed into the lungs.

Marijuana users face the same respiratory problems as regular smokers, such as bronchitis, wheezing, and general difficulty in breathing.

Here's a list of what it treats
    http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=7002

But I'll be fair and show the only negative side of Marijuana usage. People with a family history of schizophrenia may develop the disease quicker if they were to smoke marijuana. But then again people with schizophrenia that has smoked marijuana has said it helps relief it's symptoms but because we have no proof of cause and effect of regular smoking of marijuana done by Schizophrenics. We do not know if it is good or bad in the long run. And knowing it's better to be safe then sorry it would be wise to keep marijuana away from those who have schizophrenia or a family history of schizophrenia.

Huh? Who does that? My observation of potheads goes back beyond the hippie era, and I've never seen anybody make a mixed reefer of marijuana and tobacco. It's an urban legend that somebody pulled the tobacco out of a cigarette, mixed pot with it, and put it back together so nobody would know what it was. But if you've ever tried to roll a cigarette or ever smelled burning pot, that's a pretty outrageous story.
Since when was pleasure not sufficient excuse for an activity to be legally permitted? Marijuana doesn't even have the hangover that alcohol has, making users wonder whether the pleasure was worth the pain. The only major regret is appetite stimulation, and that's only a problem for people who already have a tendency to gain weight. Other than that the biggest problem is that it knocks off some IQ points, shifting many people's focus from left-brained to right-brained. That could be a problem for really stupid people, but on the other hand it's a godsend for really bright people, who get to experience a different way of thinking for a few hours. Computer programmers start creating music, attorneys start seeing the world from a philosophical perspective.

Fraggle, you forgot to mention that marijuana lowers reaction speed, especially visible in long term smokers. This side effect is very undesirable for sportsmen and military personel.

I thought I should interject on some points

The therapeutic potential of marijuana is cannabinoid-based drugs originally isolated from marijuana which are modeled on cannabinoids . Pharmacologically the patient population mentioned is not ingesting or smoking marijuana.

There is also some concern of acute coronary events with cannabis use in low risk patients.

Marijuana use is associated with adverse cardiovascular, psychiatric, respiratory, and immunologic events. Marijuana can interact with a number of prescription drugs and concomitant disease states.

Admittedly, two demographic groups with whom I seldom come in contact. Potheads are far more fun to hang out with. Sportsmen talk about nothing but sports, which I find boring. Military personnel have been trained to believe that violence is an acceptable way to resolve disputes, so being near them doesn't seem very safe.
So don't drive while you're stoned. The only reason most people want to go out is to buy music CDs or more food. And since pot induces a mild sense of paranoia, they drive in the right lane, 5mph under the speed limit, on the constant lookout for danger and cops. They're certainly safer drivers than my mother ever was.
Hey, everything is risky. Everyone has to do their own risk analysis for their own life. I don't know about you but I'm sick and tired of the government nannies telling me what I can and cannot do "for my own good." I like red meat and doughnuts and I'd rather take the risk than live without them. A lot of people feel that way about tobacco, and they won't go to bars that don't allow it, which is reducing the opportunities for my band to find work. Screw the government!
Yes and another poster and I have already pointed out that there's no reason to smoke marijuana if you're concerned with this risk, which BTW has not been quantified so its presentation is not scientific. You can take your pot as tea, cookies, infusion or vapor.
Where did you find that? The Jamaican study contradicts it and nobody knows more about marijuana than Jamaicans.

Let me look back through history and see all of those that smoked pot or did heavy drugs that were highly creative and intelligent people for their time. Well gee no one that I can remember-but I'm certain that you will find at least one or two throughout history won't you. The majority, over 90 percent , of the talented weren't drug users so why is it they could produce so many great things without the use of drugs but today people must have drugs to somehow create?

Sorry to prove you wrong Mr. Fraggle, but back in the day in England, out of dozens of smokers that I knew, only one, ever made joints without tobacco, everyone else mixed it with tobacco, even the dealers. However, it had nothing to do with 'covering' the smell, but more to do with simple economics; a pinch of mj at a time has the same effect as 4 pinches.
