Dudes, it is NOT a physics question, Jupiter was just used as a size. To simplify for you:

What if Earth surface was 120 times bigger? How would that effect humankind's history and technology? Got it?

the intricuteness of this question is that you are asking to change a physical constant of an object and consider the differences of the change on the indirect aspects of variables (humans) associated with this constant directly...

Allright than all you are really asking as I understand is that if Earth was 120 times bigger and that change was only apparent on the surface area of the planet...and this Earth2 was like that always (so we wouldn't be discussing the result of this change

Well than I think it would be safe to assume that we can see the examples of such large surface area on the people and their nationalities on Earth. Lets us examine the people of small nations and their behaviors and associate these small nations with how people of Earth in large nations live now...than relate those changes between the large nations and small nations on Earth2. Thus Earth2 would represent a large nation and Earth current would be representing a small nation.

What if the world was a house with a seemingly infinite series of rooms connected to each other and we were the size of small rodents in comparison to this dizzying world of dusty splendor?

I imagine that as the exploration of the Earth continues, new styles of decorating would be found, the likes of which we can only dream.

well we would get lost in this house with infinite rooms...

    We couldn't draw maps?
How about a trail of bread crumbs?

You beat me to it. Seems the only conceivable way to achieve the goal of the OP.

I admit to not having read the OP when telling (in post 10) the physics of how surface conditions on "Big Earth" identical to those we have now could be achieved. I had only read some other posts that at least implied that was imposssible and wanted to correct them.

If this is only a "sociology thread" then move it out of the "Earth Sciences" section. So long as it remains here, then IMHO, discussion of Earth Science is appropriate, especially if some false Earth Science is posted. - I feel compelled to correct errors where ever I notice them. (I don't read the sociology threads - nonsense will be safe there.

I am not a moderator, so I can't move it... But you guys could understand it well....

P.S.: All 4 original questions were related to history and sociology and not physics...

in order for maps to be drawn...someone must walk those rooms and come back safely...now imagine this walking through one door of that room is entrance to the exact same room as the one you enter before yet when you try to go back to the room were you originally came from you end up in another "new" room...

Man my Jupiter Earth thread is a wreck.

I'd hate to see you guys debate the "Plane on a treadmill."

It is not. Beside that you posted it in the wrong forum thus some people couldn't get the nature of your question, you actually got your answer... Thread closed....

don't close this thread, it def. envokes thinking on Jupiter, Earth, and society affect of the land area.

I should have wrote: case closed. My point was that he did get an answer, but I am not against further exploring the idea of much bigger surface...

Humans would have never evolved on a planet the size of jupiter. If some form of sentient life would become similar to humans in intellectual capacity, they would invariably be creatures who have a very low center of gravity, like a slime mold.

May be the Squirrel would be the intelligent creature in a high gravity planet....they could even develop mini spaceships to fly around...wonder if anyone has seen those tiny UFOs....

I think we tried to stick to the idea of everything the same (length of day, gravitation, etc) but the size.
Now sticking to that spacetravel probably still wouldn't be aviable with 21st century technology. Why? Because assuming that everything is 120 times bigger, air would be the same, thus a spaceship would need way more energy to be able to escape the stratosphere, even if the gravitation is the same...

I was just trying to get my mind around how great the distances that would be involved:

Brother, if you thought Texas was big now....on Jupiter-Earth..it would be tremendous. Instead of taking 12 hours to journey the 812 miles/1300km from Texarkana to El Paso (the width of Texas)...It would be a journey of 97,000 miles /156,000 km and take 2 full months of 24/7 driving. You would use somewhere around 3500 gallons / 13k liters of gasoline at a cost of somewhere around $11,000 US.

I imagine on a world this big, humans would be far more diverse in culture and language. Probably wouldn't be as advanced either, since world-wide trade would be a technical nightmare, and would make the transfer of new ideas difficult.

    Edit:
If you wanted to go from New York to London, it would be 415,000 miles and take an airliner 34 days of constant flight to travel it.

May be they would run high speed communication links and interface that way?

    Gas like creature

is it possible for a gas like creature or animal or whatever to be alive ? i mean like is there a way that something could be made up of different types of gases to create a living breathing gas type person ?
