I passed up a Japanese restaurant the other day on the highway, and the logo on the sign was very similar to the Yin and Yang, but it had three shapes within it instead of two.

Does anyone know if there is some significance to this shape, or is it likely just someting the owner made up?
I didn't have time to stop and ask.

    Does it have a name?

    Thanks.

I ask because it is very similar to something I had started a while back.
    Even the same colors...
(this is the base design of my next tattoo, it still has a long way to go)

and I was wondering if there was some significance to this design that already exists which I am unaware of.

Sounds like a Tri-Yin-Yang - its based on Korea’s Sam-Taegeuk - it represents Heaven, Man and Earth
