I hate to break it to you, Draqon. but money, infrastructure, and wealth is what wins a war.

wrong. Information, faith, and unity is what wins a war. Anyways the definition of winning is different for our cultures.

    To the original question:

The answer is a qualified 'no'. The Soviet controlled parts of Europe were quite diverse and at different levels of modernity. East Germany can't be compared with Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia with S.S.R Georgia, etc.

The 'qualified' part of the 'no' is that the totalitarian nature of the regimes broke down the former power elite such as large landowners, the Church, etc. A mostly clean slate was created which was then replaced by an authoritarianism and basketcase economy. When the soviet Empire collapsed, much of the Soviet stylre 'crap' was washed off the slate and this makes it easier for the Eastern countries to modernize....as the old social structure before the Soviet control is largely gone. (today China is in a similar position to embrace free enterprise as Mao broke down the old social power structure).

I lived quite a few years in Germany and in a quirky way Soviet control may have been good for the long term development of that country. The division into East and West more or less squeezed that last drops of fanatical nationalism from the country. West Germany put it's nose the grindstone and proved itself to the world and regained pride by becoming an economic power. All vestiges of expansive militarism were smothered by 'winnng' the economic blue ribbon in Europe. Today a strong and reunited Germany isn't a threat to anyone.

I would say no. If there was not Soviet pressure.. then reconstructions of Europe after two World Wars.. like the Marshell Plan.. may not have come to be. And the EU would have being a lot longer in the coming without its NATO friends.

KillJoy's China invasion is pathetic...the Far-East part of Russia is extremely patriotic and nationalistic, battle of Manchuria, war with Japan...just look at Vladivostok and kuril islands which are Russian, we honor small islands and will protect every inch of it

So I take you didn't have a probem with the German invasion of the Sovietunion, after all it was just about lebensraum and the same (your) logic applies....

Also it is kind of funny your fond rememblance since you only lived like 2-3 years in the old times...

Tell it to Rommel, when he was constantly running out of gas for his equipment/tanks. he would have won Africa had it been not for the long supply lines.

But I apologize, it is HISTORY again, what you know shit about...
